The Mandom Advanced Cosmetic Science Collaborative Research Lab uses human tissues, organs, and isolated cells to study the mechanisms of proteins and genes involved in the skin and in the organs and cells around it. The lab aims to apply advanced medical technologies, such as regenerative medicine and immunotherapy, to cosmetics development. It carries out its research with the cooperation of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Graduate School of Medicine, and other research institutions. The lab is recruiting graduate students who are interested in research using state-of-the-art equipment and in research that leads to cosmetics.

The Tokuyama Catalytic Reaction Joint Research Lab is a joint research lab in the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University, and it is also listed as one of the joint research labs in the graduate school's lab introductions. In the researcher directory, Project Professor Kazushi Mashima lists organometallic chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, and polymer synthesis, among others, as areas of specialization. Previously, the professor was affiliated with the Graduate School of Engineering Science, where the professor conducted research as a Professor.

Nishino Lab studies how to prevent infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria, which cannot be killed by antibiotics. Using post-genomic approaches, the lab has comprehensively investigated the drug resistance factors latent in bacterial genomes. The lab is developing inhibitors that target drug efflux pumps, which expel antibiotics and other compounds from inside the cell, and the factors that regulate them. On the lab's website, it is introduced as the Biomolecular Regulation Science research division of the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, together with the Cell Biology division (Biological) of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The Hospital Pharmacy lab is located within the Department of Pharmacy at Osaka University Hospital, and conducts research to ensure the efficacy and safety of drugs and to promote their appropriate use. Based on pharmacokinetics, cell biology, and epidemiology, the lab carries out both clinical and basic research. Its research ranges from establishing and putting personalized medicine into practice to drug repositioning. The lab accepts graduate students (including working-professional graduate students) from the Graduate School of Medicine and the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Osaka University, and welcomes visits from pharmacists and students.

The Biomolecular Science lab studies fluorescent proteins, bioluminescent proteins, microscopy, and related topics. According to the lab's website, it conducts research that only becomes possible by integrating optics, engineering, physics, chemistry, cell biology, developmental biology, botany, bioengineering, pharmaceutical sciences, and more. The lab accepts graduate students from the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences at Osaka University. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "Nagai Lab" as the Biomolecular Function Science research division of the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research.

The Gene Function Analysis Lab studies reproductive biology at the whole-animal level, while developing tools to investigate gene function using reproductive engineering and developmental engineering. Genetically modified animals, whose genes have been artificially manipulated, now play an important role in disease research and basic biological research. On fertilization, the lab uses knockout mice and transgenic mice to re-examine long-held views. The lab carries out its research in collaboration with the Animal Resource Center for Infectious Diseases and others, and also supports the production of genetically modified animals through the NPO Developmental Engineering Research Society.

The Nanodesign for Drug Discovery Lab aims to develop vaccines that people of all ages and genders can receive safely and with confidence, from pharmaceutical sciences perspectives such as drug delivery and safety science and toxicology. The lab is developing vaccines against a range of infectious diseases, including influenza virus, enterovirus, and cytomegalovirus, such as mRNA vaccines and intranasal vaccines. Working in close partnership with the Research Foundation for Microbial Diseases of Osaka University (BIKEN), the lab aims to seriously create the vaccines of ten years from now. On the lab's website it is introduced under the name "Vaccine Creation Group (Yoshioka Lab)," and in graduate school it is a cooperating research field of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Shota Nakamura, Professor

The Nakamura Lab (Infectious Disease Metagenomics) conducts research aimed at understanding infectious diseases through genome analysis and metagenomic analysis of pathogens using next-generation sequencers. A metagenome is a concept that treats the genomes derived from a community of organisms living in an environment as a single aggregate. The lab also studies human commensal microbes, especially the gut microbiota, and conducts structural biology research on how pathogens colonize the intestinal tract. The lab belongs to the Bioinformatics Center of the Research Institute for Microbial Diseases.

The Comprehensive Analysis Center plays a part in the wide range of materials research, from basic to applied, at the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, carrying out comprehensive compositional analysis and structural analysis of various materials. Large and medium-sized analytical instruments and computer systems that are widely shared among users are managed together, mainly in the Annex of the Research Building, and are maintained so that compositional analysis, structural analysis, and evaluation of physical properties can be carried out efficiently. Research projects using these instruments are also carried out, and the research introduction lists the development of asymmetric synthesis reactions and catalytic oxidation reactions.

The Precision Molecular Creation Chemistry Division (Takizawa Lab) studies the development of synthetic reaction processes with a small environmental burden, using energy from sunlight and electricity. To make reactions proceed efficiently and quickly, the lab also works on data-driven domino synthesis, which actively uses machine learning. Recently, in flow reaction processes using organocatalysts, the lab has used methods such as Bayesian optimization to find suitable reaction conditions in a short time from a minimal amount of training data. The lab is pioneering practical data-driven flow and electrochemical synthesis methods, aiming to reduce labor and improve productivity in precision organic synthetic chemistry.
