Tadahiko Murata, Professor
0 student voices
The RSSS Lab (Murata Lab) researches real-scale social simulation technology, which runs a virtual real society including humans on a computer. Using a digital twin of real society built in cyberspace, the lab simulates how individuals make decisions, such as in their movement and purchasing behavior. The synthetic population data used in the simulations are created from statistics. In addition to social simulation, the lab is also researching data generation in the field of drug discovery.

Yasushi Sakurai, Professor
0 student voices
The Sakurai-Matsubara Lab researches technology that uses large-scale data to analyze the time evolution of natural and social phenomena in real time and optimize social activities. Targeting time series data such as IoT big data, the lab analyzes how various phenomena and activities change over time, working on discovering important patterns and predicting future events. The lab conducts joint research with companies toward practical application and also works on transferring its technology to industry. The lab belongs to the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research at Osaka University and serves as a cooperating chair of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology. Lab assignment is open to graduate students and third- and fourth-year undergraduates.

Susumu Date, Professor
0 student voices
The Date Lab researches computing infrastructure and data infrastructure centered on supercomputing, as well as the applications built on them. The lab advances its research and development by drawing on its experience building and operating the D3 Center's supercomputing system, large-scale visualization system, and data infrastructure. It is a lab that studies the infrastructure needed for large-scale computation, such as AI development and numerical simulation. As a cooperating chair of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology and the School of Engineering, the lab also works to develop people who will lead and pioneer this field.

Hideyuki Shimonishi, Professor
0 student voices
The Shimonishi Lab researches technologies for building and using digital twins, which are digital copies of the real world, in real time. In communications, the lab covers estimating radio conditions for Beyond 5G/6G, the next-generation communication technology, and optimizing distributed AI edge-cloud systems. In recognition and data, the lab covers identifying many objects and positioning them in 3D, as well as technologies for collecting and generating real-world data with low latency. In applications, the lab researches building and sharing metaverse spaces that enable communication across time and space.

Atsuo Inomata, Professor
0 student voices
Secure Platform Architecture Lab (Inomata Lab) conducts research on cybersecurity. The lab sets its research themes by reexamining services and devices closely tied to daily life, such as the internet, smartphones, IC cards, QR code payments, and My Number Cards, from the perspective of risk. Its research covers not only technical aspects but also a broad range of perspectives, including organizations, law, and social systems.

Daisuke Furihata, Professor
0 student voices
The Furihata-Miyatake Lab studies applied mathematics in the broad sense in the Computer Experimental Science Division of the D3 Center at The University of Osaka. Much of its research concerns methods and analysis in the numerical analysis of differential equations and partial differential equations. The lab also pursues research on mathematical modeling, stochastic differential equations, and data assimilation. The lab welcomes fourth-year students from the Department of Mathematics in the School of Science, and graduate students from the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology.

Kensuke Yasufuku, Professor
0 student voices
The Yasufuku Lab studies community design for architecture, cities, and society using ICT. Using diverse methods including simulation, VR, AI, and descriptive geometry, the lab works on the design, representation, analysis, and evaluation of space. Affiliated with the D3 Center at The University of Osaka, the lab is active as a cooperating field (Architecture and Urban Form Engineering) of the Architectural Engineering section of the Division of Global Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering.
Toru Yarimizu, Professor
0 student voices
The DX Research Division is engaged in research and practice aimed at bringing innovation to business and society through digital technology. On the research side, it examines the construction of DX strategies and the impact of DX on society and industry, from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. On the practical side, it is responsible for promoting DX at Osaka University, working to improve the quality of education, research, and administration.

Atsuo Kishimoto, Professor
0 student voices
The lab studies the ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) that may arise when new science and technology are introduced into society. The lab aims to research and develop "social technology" for addressing ELSI in parallel with the research and development of the science and technology itself. At the Social Technology Research Division of the D3 Center, the lab works on personal data and AI technologies. At the ELSI team of the Human Metaverse Disease Research Hub (PRIMe), it works on biodigital twins. Researchers with different specialties, nationalities, and backgrounds come together and carry out research that crosses disciplinary boundaries.

Kaname Harumoto, Professor

The Datability Platform Research Division studies platform technologies that use IoT and AI to collect, analyze, and share data from the real world. Building mechanisms for research data management to advance open science is another pillar of its research. Its predecessor was the Service Creation and Support Division of the Institute for Datability Science, and it was newly launched as a research division of the D3 Center in October 2024. With an Associate Professor who joined from the Research and Development Office of the University Library, the division pursues research under its new structure from the perspective of data utilization.
