The lab focuses on research on the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Graduate students and students assigned through the Basic Medical Science Seminar work with faculty on epidemiological research that investigates the factors behind the onset of lifestyle-related diseases. In the field of global health, the lab also conducts surveys and research focusing on the health challenges of low- and middle-income countries. The skills students gain through research include the basics of epidemiology and biostatistics, the ability to use statistical software, and the ability to critically read epidemiological and clinical research.

The Healthcare Administration Lab at Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine is responsible for education in healthcare administration. The lab's website introduces the Young Leaders Program, a special master's program, and the Program for Training Core National Human Resources from Asian Countries, a doctoral program.

The Molecular Oncology Lab aims to clarify the operating principles of the genome and RNA and, based on that understanding, to elucidate the mechanisms of cancer and discover new therapies. The lab explores mechanisms of gene regulation and disease by integratively analyzing large-scale data made possible by advances in technologies such as next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and genome editing. In April 2026, the lab moved to the Institute of Medical Science, the University of Tokyo (Division of Biochemistry and Integrative Cancer Research). On the lab's website, it is presented under the name “Suzuki Lab.”

The Tumor Biology (Molecular Pathology) Lab studies abnormalities in epigenetics, the mechanism that determines how genes are used, with a particular focus on cancer. Within the epigenome, the lab focuses on long non-coding RNAs, which are not translated into proteins, conducting basic research while aiming to apply the findings to diagnosis and treatment. The lab aims to detect cancer-specific epigenomic abnormalities early and reliably for use in diagnosis, and is developing new treatment strategies that suppress cancer with epigenome-targeting drugs. Since 2024, the lab has been conducting an investigator-initiated clinical trial for glioblastoma of a therapeutic drug targeting TUG1, a long non-coding RNA essential for cancer growth.

The Molecular Genetics Lab studies the mechanisms of DNA repair and the diseases that result from the accumulation of DNA damage. Cells repair damaged DNA to keep the genome stable, and when this function breaks down, it is involved in disease states such as cancer and aging. Using next-generation genome analysis technologies, the lab aims to detect DNA damage, identify the causes of diseases, and develop diagnostic and therapeutic methods. The lab welcomes young people who aspire to become researchers, as well as physicians.

The Data-Driven Biology Lab aims to clarify the "logic by which living systems give rise to their functions" through mathematical approaches. Spanning levels from molecules to cells to multicellular systems, the lab uses mathematical modeling to explore how biological functions that appear purposeful are realized. The lab's web page lists keywords such as Bayesian inference, reinforcement learning, and single-cell omics. The lab says that undergraduate students who are motivated to try research are welcome to get in touch, regardless of their affiliation.

The Department of Laboratory Animal Science conducts research using mice, aiming to contribute to understanding complex higher-order biological phenomena in humans. Most human diseases arise from the complex interplay of many genes and environmental factors. In humans, it is difficult to examine individual factors in detail, but in mice, genetic and environmental factors can be tightly controlled and analyzed. The lab's research challenges are developing and breeding disease models of glucose and lipid metabolism disorders and parasitic infections.

The Health and Nutrition Medicine Lab belongs to the Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine and is presented as part of the Department of Health and Social Medicine in the doctoral program. The lab is in charge of cystic fibrosis in the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's Research Group on Intractable Pancreatic Diseases. The faculty members are staff of the Research Center of Health, Physical Fitness and Sports at Nagoya University.

The Health and Sports Medicine Lab studies the mechanisms by which insulin resistance develops, as well as countermeasures against it. Insulin resistance is a major pathological condition underlying lifestyle-related diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension, and is also thought to be a cause of aging. The lab focuses in particular on preventive interventions through exercise and nutrition therapy, and conducts studies in humans, animal experiments, and molecular biological investigations. In recent years, the lab has also begun studying how the brain (the central nervous system) regulates glucose and energy metabolism.

The Psychopathology and Psychotherapy Lab studies mental disorders with psychopathology and psychotherapy as its core. Drawing on their own clinical experience, the faculty members work on topics such as psychoanalytic thinking, hikikomori (severe social withdrawal), and children's mental health. Because this is not a lab that conducts experimental biological research, the faculty members, graduate students, and research students are all expected to find their own research areas and subjects from their clinical experience and practice. The lab is one of the cooperating chairs in the Basic Medicine field of the Graduate School of Medicine, and its faculty members also work in the Health Administration Office of the Research Center of Health, Physical Fitness and Sports, providing mental health care for the university's staff and students.
