The lab studies disaster prevention and mitigation for lifelines such as water, electricity, and gas. Even when a large-scale disaster such as a Nankai Trough earthquake or a typhoon like the Ise Bay Typhoon strikes, the lab emphasizes keeping lifeline damage to a minimum, maintaining their functions, and achieving early recovery. The lab is a division within the Disaster Mitigation Research Center at Nagoya University.
