The Fundamental Aging Science Lab is a collaborative program run by the Department of Disease Genomics at the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (NCGG). It uses genome analysis to study genes linked to age-related diseases. The research takes place outside Nagoya University, at the NCGG in Obu, Aichi Prefecture. Using specimens donated by patients, the lab examines individual differences in genes. This research aims to lead to methods for predicting and preventing disease and to the search for candidate sources of new drugs. The lab also contributes to genetic diagnosis, which examines gene sequences, for some forms of familial dementia.

The Cognitive Function Science Lab scientifically tests whether non-drug approaches such as exercise, nutrition, and intellectual activities are effective in preventing dementia and physical frailty. Based on these findings, the lab develops programs for preventing the need for long-term care. Its central tasks are to find exercises and activities that prevent progression from mild cognitive impairment to dementia, and to carry out trials that demonstrate their effects. The lab's website is the page of the Department of Preventive Gerontology at the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (NCGG) in Obu, Aichi Prefecture.

The Department of Epidemiology of Aging studies the causes of aging and age-related diseases using epidemiological methods, in order to support the mental and physical independence of older adults. The department runs NILS-LSA, a survey that follows residents of Obu City and Higashiura Town in Aichi Prefecture over a long period, and uses the data to advance research that helps prevent aging and age-related diseases. The lab is a department of the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (Obu City, Aichi Prefecture). In December 2024, a cooperative chair (Epidemiology of Aging) was established with the Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine. Experts in medicine, psychology, exercise, body composition, nutrition, and other fields work together on the surveys and data analysis.

The Aging Metabolic Science Lab is introduced on the page of the Department of Metabolism and Endocrinology at the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (Obu City, Aichi Prefecture). As diabetes becomes more common among older adults, sarcopenia (loss of muscle) and dementia are increasing rapidly. The lab studies how these conditions progress, indicators for detecting them early, and methods for preventing them. The lab conducts research based on a cohort it built itself, as well as analyses using mice.

The Immunodeficiency Regulation Lab is a cooperative graduate chair of the Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine that conducts research on HIV infection and AIDS. The research takes place in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the Clinical Research Center of Nagoya Medical Center, located in Sannomaru, Naka Ward, Nagoya. Taking advantage of being attached to a hospital, the lab conducts research that combines basic science and clinical practice. At the molecular level, the lab investigates how HIV changes under antiviral drug treatment and escapes the drugs (drug resistance). It also works to clarify how the host (humans) deals with HIV, and applies these findings to the development of new therapeutic drugs. The lab accepts graduate students (master's and doctoral programs in medical science), and researchers, physicians, and graduate students specializing in medicine, pharmacy, science, engineering, and other fields work together.

The Neurochemistry Lab is a department based at the Institute for Developmental Research, Aichi Developmental Disability Center, and conducts research aimed at elucidating the pathology of developmental disorders and exploring new treatments. The institute consists of research departments for genetic medicine, cell pathology, disability models, molecular pathology, and neural information, and any of these departments can host graduate students of the Neurochemistry Lab. Using model animals and model cells for autism spectrum disorder and for various congenital and acquired intellectual disabilities, the lab investigates the mechanisms of these conditions experimentally. Students can also take on research close to clinical practice, such as identifying the causative genes of patients with intellectual disability of unknown cause who visit the Central Hospital in the same center, and research aimed at better ryoiku (developmental therapy and educational support) for people with autism spectrum disorder.

The Cancer Information and Control Division aims to find effective means of reducing the number of people who suffer from cancer and who die of it. It is closely involved with the National Cancer Registry, which collects information on all cancer patients in Japan, and provides medical support for the operation of the Aichi Cancer Registry. Based on the collected data, the lab conducts descriptive epidemiology studies that analyze the geographic and temporal characteristics of cancer occurrence in the prefecture and across Japan. It is a research division of the Aichi Cancer Center Research Institute (Chikusa Ward, Nagoya), and works together with Aichi Prefecture to advance regional cancer control.

The Cancer Prevention Division conducts research that builds evidence for cancer prevention by considering both environmental and genetic factors. Using molecular epidemiology methods, it examines the combined effects of environmental factors such as lifestyle and genetic factors, which correspond to inborn constitution. By analyzing lifestyle questionnaires and genetic information from patients who visit the hospital together, it aims to establish cancer prevention methods suited to each individual's constitution. The lab is located at the Aichi Cancer Center Research Institute and is introduced on its website under the name "Cancer Prevention Division."

The Division of Cancer Pathophysiology studies how cancer arises in the body, becomes malignant and metastasizes, and how cancer affects the body. The division is part of the Aichi Cancer Center Research Institute, and students can also conduct research here as cooperative graduate students of Nagoya University Graduate School. Using genetically modified mice, the lab focuses on the tumor microenvironment, the mechanisms of metastasis, and cancer cachexia. Working with the departments of Aichi Cancer Center Hospital, the lab aims to turn the results of basic research into new treatments.

The Cancer System Informatics Lab studies how to understand the complex systems of cancer by analyzing large-scale data such as genomic information. As the Division of Systems Analysis at the Aichi Cancer Center Research Institute, the lab develops analysis methods using data science techniques such as deep learning and Bayesian statistical modeling. The lab aims to use its findings to support prevention and treatment optimized for each individual. The lab is located at Aichi Cancer Center, and students can also conduct research here as cooperative graduate students of Nagoya University Graduate School.
