The Medicinal Plant Resources Lab is a cooperative graduate school field of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Osaka University, and is part of the Division of Biomedical Innovation Science. On the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences' lab introduction page, the name of the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition, a National Research and Development Agency, appears alongside this division. The website introduced as the lab homepage of the affiliated institution is that of the institute's Research Center for Medicinal Plant Resources.

The Stem Cell Regulation Lab conducts research to build systems that evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of drugs, using blood cells, hepatocytes, and other cells differentiated from stem cells such as ES cells and iPS cells. Its aim is to accelerate drug discovery research. While clarifying the molecular mechanisms of development, the lab applies the information obtained to developing methods for inducing stem cell differentiation and to drug discovery. On the website of the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition, the lab is introduced under the name “Cell Models for Drug Discovery Research Project.”

The Immune Aging Regulation Lab pursues drug discovery research that returns results to patients and is oriented toward clinical use, centered on immunological studies of infectious diseases and intractable cancers. Using samples from non-human primates and clinical specimens from humans, it uncovers the diverse immune responses seen in each disease. In the future, it aims to lead to the development of new vaccines and immunotherapies. On the lab's website, it is introduced as the “Precision Immunology Project” of the Center for Intractable Diseases and Immunogenomics.

Aiming to eradicate cancer, the Biofunctional Molecule Regulation Lab conducts research to clarify the mechanisms of carcinogenesis through analysis of genome information and to develop new therapeutic drugs. It finds “cancer-specific molecules,” whose expression is elevated only in cancer cells, and aims to develop therapeutic drugs that target only cancer cells. Experiments are mainly done with cancer cell lines, but the lab also places weight on data observed in human cancer clinical specimens. On the lab's website, it is introduced as the “Biofunctional Molecule Regulation Project” of the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition.

Keeping in mind 'research that benefits patients' and 'research that can be returned to patients,' the Immunogenomics Lab aims to realize precision medicine, which provides the optimal treatment for each individual patient. Using data centered on genome analysis and immunogenomic analysis, the lab aims to elucidate the causes of diseases, search for biomarkers, and develop new immunotherapies. The lab is also working on developing personalized cancer immunotherapy based on each patient's genomic and gene expression information. The lab's website is the page of the 'Intractable Disease and Immuno-Genomics Research Project' at the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition.

The Bacterial Informatics Lab studies the mechanisms by which pathogenic bacteria cause disease. The lab says that clarifying how diseases arise reveals the molecules that should be targeted by drugs, which leads to the development of preventive and therapeutic methods. In addition to infections caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Streptococcus pyogenes, the lab studies the human microbiome using genomic information and molecular biology experiments. On the institute's website, the lab is introduced as the 'Bacterial Informatics Project' of the National Institutes of Biomedical Innovation, Health and Nutrition.

The Division of Cell-Based Therapeutic Products has as its mission building the scientific basis for evaluating the quality, efficacy, and safety of cell-processed products derived from humans or animals, among regenerative medicine products. Aiming to promote the prompt practical use of effective and safe cell-processed products, the division conducts scientific studies based on regulatory science and disseminates information. The division has four sections: Sections 1 to 3 handle cell therapy products, tissue-engineered products, and iPS cell-processed products, and Section 4 handles viral safety. The page registered as the lab website of the Gene and Cellular Medicine Lab is that of the Division of Cell-Based Therapeutic Products at the National Institute of Health Sciences, where the academic advisor, Prof. Yasuda, serves as division head.
