The Acute and Palliative Care Lab studies perioperative nursing, as well as the psychological characteristics and nursing care of patients from the cancer treatment period through to end of life. The patients it focuses on vary widely in developmental stage, health level, and psychosocial background, and in the lab seminar, graduate students freely exchange opinions with one another. At the undergraduate level, the lab is in charge of the Adult Nursing Practicum (Perioperative), in which students mainly learn preoperative and postoperative nursing care for patients undergoing cancer surgery.

The Perioperative Management Lab studies the management of patients before and after surgery, as well as long-term follow-up once time has passed since the operation. The lab views everything from assessing a patient's condition before surgery to postoperative rehabilitation as a single path, and sees its role as helping patients move along that path smoothly. Its goal is to train people who can coordinate a team from many perspectives, across professional boundaries. Starting in fiscal year 2022 (Reiwa 4), the lab opened a course in the doctoral program for training clinical engineers to become instructors.

The Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing Lab is the lab within the Nursing Practice Development Science Division that is mainly responsible for education in the psychiatric field. The division is made up of the adult, psychiatric, and gerontological fields. The division trains research educators who advance the accumulation of the scientific evidence needed for nursing care in clinical settings, the development of methods to evaluate nursing care, and the building of theory behind it. The division's website explains that while it has been demonstrated that nursing interventions contribute to improvements in patients' conditions, the accumulation of evidence is insufficient.
