Plastic surgery treats congenital abnormalities of the body's surface, deformities following injury or illness, and defects left after tumor resection. For congenital conditions, it handles facial malformations such as cleft lip and cleft palate, malformations of the ears, limbs, and trunk, and birthmarks (nevi) and hemangiomas. For acquired conditions, it deals with facial trauma, facial nerve palsy, intractable ulcers, keloids, and lymphedema. Cosmetic surgery is not covered by health insurance, so the department does not perform it.
