The Nature Therapy Lab studies "human-nature interaction" by measuring the body's responses. The lab examines brain, autonomic nervous system, hormonal, and immune function when people are exposed to forests, parks, wood, flowers, and more, and verifies the physiological relaxation effects that nature provides. The lab combines field experiments conducted on site in forests and other settings with laboratory experiments that use stimuli for each of the five senses. Recently, the lab has focused on clarifying individual differences in these effects and on applications for people under severe stress.

The lab (health and functional horticulture) conducts research on using agriculture and horticulture to improve people's quality of life (QOL), and on community activities and revitalization, such as town development. Its keywords are agriculture, horticultural activities, agricultural education, agriculture-welfare collaboration, the environment, health, food, and community. The lab is based at the Center for Environment, Health and Field Sciences on Kashiwa Campus. The lab website lists the titles of past graduation and master's theses, and students who wish to join the lab are directed to refer to them.

The Agricultural Design Lab studies how to solve problems in agriculture through design that takes the user's point of view. With the management of beekeeping, home fruit trees, and urban parks as the pillars of its education and research, the lab designs tools and systems and proposes models for solving problems. In collaboration with companies and local governments, the lab carries out education and research aimed at real-world implementation. Honey harvested on campus is turned into products, and the lab also develops collaborative products with companies.

The International Urban Horticulture Lab is the lab of Associate Professor Na Lu at the Center for Environment, Health and Field Sciences on Kashiwa Campus. Its research keywords include plant factories and urban agriculture, the development of light recipes that adjust how plants grow using LED light, the environment around roots, and plant environmental control. At the graduate level, the lab is in charge of education for the International Environmental Horticulture Course of the Graduate School of Horticulture.

The Mucosal System Lab studies the mechanisms of immunity in the intestine. The lab investigates how M cells, specialized cells that take bacteria and viruses from inside the gut into immune tissue, function and how they form. The lab also studies how the gut microbiota interacts with its host and how this affects bodily functions and disease. The lab is a team at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences (Yokohama). As a cooperative graduate school program with Chiba University, it allows students to earn a degree while doing research here.

The Immune Transcriptional Regulation Lab studies how the various immune cells that make up the immune system differentiate. All cells in the body carry the same genome, and to become a specific type of cell, a program that reads out the necessary genetic information must be run. Focusing on transcription factors, which are central to this process, the lab investigates the mechanisms of immune cell differentiation from the perspective of gene expression regulation. The lab is a team at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences (Yokohama). As a cooperative graduate school program with Chiba University, it allows students to earn a degree while doing research here.

The Immune Cell Therapy Lab studies the mechanisms that enhance and regulate immune function in cancer and other diseases. Going beyond basic research, the lab pursues translational research that leads to practical application in clinical settings. It is working to bring to humans a new cancer vaccine cell product that elicits both innate and adaptive immunity. The lab is a team at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences (Yokohama). As a cooperative graduate school program with Chiba University, it allows students to earn a degree while doing research here.

The Human Disease Model Research Team uses humanized mice to study how blood and immune cells are produced. The team seeks to clarify the process by which the most undifferentiated hematopoietic stem cells give rise to a wide variety of blood and immune cells. By investigating why leukemia relapses and what kind of treatment can overcome relapse, the team aims to understand and overcome leukemia. The team is part of the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences (Yokohama). As a cooperative graduate school program with Chiba University, students can earn a degree while conducting research here.

Toshinori Sato, Professor

Prof. Sato's lab conducts research to understand why earthquakes occur. Around Japan, large earthquakes often occur at boundaries where plates subduct beneath the sea. Using artificial seismic sources and ocean bottom seismometers, the lab investigates the shape in which plates subduct and which locations are most prone to earthquakes. To understand the process by which earthquakes occur repeatedly, the lab is also developing methods for estimating fault slip and simulation models.

Prof. Nakanishi's lab studies how oceanic plates and oceanic crust form and develop. The lab focuses on magmatic activity of various scales, from petit-spots to large oceanic plateaus. The lab takes part in research cruises to collect data such as seafloor topography, geomagnetism, and gravity. The main study areas are the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and the lab also conducts joint research with researchers overseas.
