The lab studies diagnostic imaging using CT and MRI images. Prof. Yabuuchi works on diagnostic imaging of breast and head and neck tumors and on developing imaging parameters that predict the early effects of chemotherapy for lung cancer. Lecturer Kojima studies methods to improve the diagnostic accuracy of CT and MRI. Prof. Yabuuchi and Lecturer Kojima belong to the Division of Medical Quantum Science, Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University, and faculty profiles are published on the division's shared website.

The Quantum Functional Therapeutic Science Lab belongs to the Division of Medical Quantum Science in the Department of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University, and conducts research in nuclear medicine and radiation oncology. Building on medical physics and radiological technology, the division covers a wide range of topics, including medical image analysis, diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, and radiation protection and measurement. Professor Shingo Baba specializes in nuclear medicine, and Associate Professor Kazushige Atsumi specializes in radiation oncology. The division offers a Medical Quantum Science Data Scientist Course, and one aim of the master's program is to train medical physicists.

The Quantum Imaging Technology Lab studies methods for evaluating image quality and radiation dose in CT, MRI, and X-ray images. Professor Kondo works on developing methods for evaluating the image quality of CT and MRI, and for quantitative evaluation, which means measuring numerical values from images. Assistant Professor Tanaka's main research is the quantitative evaluation of medical radiation exposure and image quality in digital X-ray imaging systems. The source site belongs to the Division of Medical Quantum Science and also introduces other faculty members.

The Biological Information Analysis Lab is a lab whose faculty members work on research related to biological information, including EEG and magnetoencephalography in epilepsy, artificial vision, and tests using microRNA in blood. Professor Hiroshi Shigeto is engaged in both clinical practice and research on neurological diseases, and uses neurophysiological methods to study epilepsy. Lecturer Hiroyuki Tashiro develops artificial vision systems that aim to restore visual function in people who have lost their sight. Assistant Professor Hiromichi Shiotsu aims to develop new clinical tests using microRNA in blood.

The Biological Function Analysis Lab is a research unit that conducts basic research on mitochondria and develops new measurement methods in clinical chemistry. Mitochondrial DNA encodes subunits of the electron transport chain that synthesizes ATP, and is considered an essential genome for cells to maintain normal function. The lab investigates the functions of genes involved in the replication, transcription, and translation of mitochondrial DNA, as well as the function of the mitochondrial protein p32.

At the Pathophysiological Information Analysis Lab, faculty members of the Medical Laboratory Science Division study blood diseases, autoimmunity, gastric cancer metastasis, and more. The lab works on applying genetic analysis to the diagnosis of blood diseases, and on developing methods for inducing tumor immunity and related laboratory testing technologies. It also investigates how the autoimmune regulator gene AIRE protects against Candida infection. Another study examines the mechanism of gastric cancer metastasis, focusing on proteins in the cell membrane.

At the Pathophysiological Function Analysis Lab, faculty members of the Medical Laboratory Science Division, Department of Health Sciences, School of Medicine study diabetes, blood diseases, bacteria, and more. Professor Hitoshi Katsuta's research themes are classifying the pathophysiology of diabetes using laboratory data from Kyushu University Hospital, and elucidating the mechanism by which pancreatic islets regenerate. Assistant Professor Tomoko Kimura investigates the mechanism by which myelodysplastic syndromes transform into leukemia, and the relationship between hormone replacement therapy and lifestyle-related diseases. Lecturer Masamune Aihara's research theme is clinical microbiology.

The Molecular Oral Anatomy Lab studies mesenchymal stem cells in the oral cavity and the mechanisms that regulate bone metabolism. At the undergraduate level, the lab teaches oral anatomy, tooth anatomy, oral histology, and oral embryology, as well as systemic anatomy, histology, and embryology. At the graduate level, students study a wide range of phenomena at the tissue, cellular, and molecular levels through research grounded in molecular biology. The lab aims to train researchers and dentists with a deep understanding of basic medicine and life sciences.

The Oral Cell Engineering Lab is part of the Department of Normal Oral Function Regulation in the Faculty of Dental Science at Kyushu University, and it studies how information is transmitted inside cells. Its predecessor was the Department of Oral Biochemistry, established in 1968, which took its current name in the organizational restructuring of 2000. The lab has examined from many angles the physiological functions of a protein that binds inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate, which it discovered in 1992. Its current research themes also include the regulation of bone metabolism by the transcription factor NF-κB.

To put into practice the Faculty of Dental Science's philosophy of "contributing to overall health through oral health," the Oral Functional Molecular Science Lab carries out both life science research and dental research. The lab explores how oral inflammation, peripheral inflammation, and neuroinflammation relate to systemic diseases. In addition to educating graduate students, the lab is responsible for teaching pharmacology to undergraduate students. Through their research, the lab's members meet researchers from around the world and share their findings globally.
