The lab researches sensors that support safety and convenience as automobiles become electrified and intelligent.

The Automotive Sensor Lab researches devices and application systems that improve safety and convenience, as automobiles become electrified and intelligent. Its research themes include preventing intersection collisions between vehicles approaching from crossing directions, far-infrared image sensors and their application systems, and optical wireless power transfer. The lab also works on research that visualizes on maps how long people can stay at a destination, and on research into the value of mobility. Prof. Hirota's primary appointment is at the Faculty of Engineering, and he supervises graduate students of the Department of Automotive Science in the Graduate School of Integrated Frontier Sciences.
