The Animal Resource Production Lab works to elucidate the molecular basis that controls reproductive mechanisms in animals, aiming to develop new livestock production and reproductive medicine technologies. The lab studies how sperm acquire the ability to fertilize while altering their plasma membrane, and how sperm mature in the epididymis. It also works on elucidating the mechanism of reprogramming, in which iPS cells are generated from somatic cells. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "Asano Lab."

The Forest Ecology and Environment / Regional Resource Conservation Lab focuses on the relationships between organisms and their environment. Through fieldwork, students learn about the ecology of various organisms, think about why organisms exist in a given place, and develop the ability to understand nature. The research fields are forests, grasslands, and deserts, and research is conducted in Japan and abroad. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "Forest Ecology and Environment Lab."

The Plant Parasitic Mycology Lab studies the diversity, taxonomy, ecology, and physiology of fungi and bacteria that live in close association with plants. The subjects include a wide range of microorganisms: plant pathogens such as rust fungi, symbionts such as mycorrhizal fungi, and decomposers of litter and wood. Using methods ranging from fieldwork to molecular biological analysis, the lab clarifies the basic biological characteristics of fungi and bacteria. The lab hopes this work will eventually contribute to the integrated control of plant pathogenic microorganisms and to environmental conservation.

The Applied Entomology and Zoology Lab studies the mechanisms of insect immunity and the ecology of parasitoid wasps and flies. Insects survive in environments containing pathogenic bacteria and under attack from parasitoid insects. Using molecular biological methods, rearing experiments, and field surveys, the lab investigates these defense mechanisms and the strategies of the parasitoids. Undergraduates join from the College of Biological Sciences or the College of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, and graduate students join through the Agro-Bioresource Sciences or Agricultural Sciences degree programs.

The Food Resource Utilization Science Lab focuses on international research on the functional analysis and effective use of food resources. The lab also studies how to turn food components into seeds for functional foods and cosmetics, maps the distribution of functional properties in dryland vegetation and builds a database of them, and develops methods for evaluating the safety of foods and the environment. Using bioassays based on animal cell engineering, the lab searches for new bioactive functions and clarifies their mechanisms, and it also conducts field surveys in drylands. The lab's website introduces it under the name "Isoda Lab."

The Metabolic Network Science Lab studies the mechanisms of metabolism inside plants, focusing on metabolites, which are organic compounds. The lab aims to clarify how plants allocate the energy they produce for themselves, and how they produce different metabolites in both quantity and quality in response to the environment. By analyzing volatile organic compounds, the components of odor, the lab explores how compounds in soil affect plant growth and how the aroma of tomatoes and other crops is produced. Developing measurement technologies using analytical instruments is also one of the main pillars of the lab's research.

The Plant Functional Biochemistry Lab studies the mechanisms of bioactive substances that act on plants, and plant responses to them. For both natural and synthetic bioactive substances, the lab identifies which molecules they act on (target molecules) and investigates how they work. The lab also studies plant responses to photooxidative stress, the biosynthesis of aroma compounds, semiochemicals that act among insects, plants, and animals, and the uptake and transport of metals in land plants. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "Plant Function Regulation Lab."

The Natural Products Chemistry Lab searches for the target molecules of natural and synthetic bioactive compounds and studies how they work. Its research also covers phototropism, gravitropism, and allelopathy in plants. It also lists new pharmaceuticals and functional foods derived from untapped biological resources as research topics. The lab also examines whether components of seaweeds and plants can inhibit the aggregation of amyloid β.

The Soil Environmental Chemistry Lab conducts research on forest soils, soil organic matter, and the soils of the Eurasian steppe. The university's researcher directory lists soil carbonates, soil aggregates, soil organic matter, and pedogenesis as research keywords. In the College of Agro-Biological Resource Sciences, the lab is listed as one of the research areas of the Applied Life Chemistry course (chemistry field).

The Plant Environmental Biochemistry Lab studies the mechanisms by which plants tolerate environmental stress such as heavy metals, focusing on their relationships with endophytes. The lab also investigates how plants and the microbes around their roots influence each other through chemical substances. Its research projects and papers include many that focus on plants growing naturally at abandoned mine sites.
