The Medical Virology Lab, at the Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS), studies viral infections prone to antigenic variation, such as COVID-19 and influenza. The lab works to clarify the mechanism of "immune evasion," by which viruses escape the immune system, and conducts research on profiling immunity that is also effective against these infections. By combining immune profiling, structural biology, and computational science, the lab aims to design antibody therapeutics and vaccines. The lab is a cooperative graduate school lab of the Medical Sciences Degree Program in the Degree Programs in Comprehensive Human Sciences at the University of Tsukuba, and supervises graduate students.

The Environmental Science and Genomic Epidemiology Lab uses data from large-scale epidemiological surveys to study how factors from the fetal period through childhood affect later health. The environmental factors it examines range widely, covering physical, chemical, and biological environments as well as lifestyle, socioeconomic status, and occupation. The lab also conducts analyses that take genome-environment interaction into account, and measures environmental exposure using biological samples. The lab is part of the National Institute for Environmental Studies, and at the University of Tsukuba it is a cooperative graduate school lab of the Degree Programs in Comprehensive Human Sciences, Degree Program in Medical Sciences.

The Translational Science for Drug Discovery Lab is part of the Degree Program in Medical Sciences, Degree Programs in Comprehensive Human Sciences, at the University of Tsukuba, as a cooperative graduate school lab with Astellas Pharma Inc. The lab researches and develops new evaluation methods in drug discovery, such as in pathophysiology, toxicology, and biomimetic systems, and verifies their validity. Through this research, the lab aims to bridge basic research and clinical medicine and lead to the creation of new drugs.

The Cell and Molecular Engineering Lab is a cooperative graduate school lab of the Degree Programs in Comprehensive Human Sciences, Degree Program in Medical Sciences, at the University of Tsukuba, supervised by researchers at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). The supervisors are Prof. Kuno, Prof. Sumaru, and Prof. Tateno, who correspond to the Molecular and Cellular Multi-omics, Molecular Function Application, and Multicellular System Control research groups, respectively. The Sumaru group uses functional polymer materials to develop systems that efficiently capture cells and vesicles such as exosomes, as well as in vitro model systems that use human cells in place of animal experiments. The Tateno group studies the microbiota, cancer cells, stem cells, and more using multi-omics analysis technology that simultaneously measures glycans and RNA in each single cell.

The Molecular Drug Discovery Lab is a lab of the University of Tsukuba's partner graduate school program, based at Eisai Co., Ltd.'s Tsukuba Research Laboratories. The lab develops highly sensitive methods for measuring drug concentrations and biomarkers, which are indicators of the body's condition, for pharmaceuticals and candidate compounds. Using results from in vitro studies and studies with genetically modified animals, the lab investigates how drugs move through the body and how they are metabolized and excreted. This leads to "PK/PD prediction" of how drugs will behave and work in humans. The lab aims to establish evaluation systems using cells and other materials to predict drug toxicity and clarify its mechanisms.

Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Review Science is a field that studies the evaluation of benefit-risk balance in the regulatory review and approval of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and regenerative medicine products, as well as timely and appropriate safety measures. It is established as a partner graduate school field with the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) within the Medical Sciences Degree Program of the Degree Programs in Comprehensive Human Sciences at the University of Tsukuba. The PMDA concluded a comprehensive partnership agreement with the University of Tsukuba in March 2016. The PMDA also has a partner graduate school agreement system, established in December 2009 to build collaborative relationships with academia.

The Drug Discovery and Infection Control Lab works toward controlling viral infectious diseases by clarifying how viruses infect and multiply, and by searching for molecules and mechanisms that can serve as drug discovery targets. The viruses studied center on human oncogenic viruses that cause chronic infection, and also include arthropod-borne viruses and zoonotic viruses with a risk of global pandemic, as well as highly pathogenic hemorrhagic fever viruses. According to the lab's introduction, as a core institution for infectious disease drug discovery in Japan, it also aims to create infectious disease control methods that solve social issues, through joint research with institutes, universities, and companies. The lab is located at the Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS), and at the University of Tsukuba it is a partner graduate school lab of the Medical Sciences Degree Program in the Degree Programs in Comprehensive Human Sciences.
