Mori Lab studies image-centered media processing, including image processing, computer vision, computer graphics, and virtual reality. A major feature of the lab is that it targets not only 2D images but also high-dimensional 3D and 4D images, and conducts research in which computers understand and make judgments about structures inside the human body. Methods developed in the lab are used in hospitals and elsewhere for diagnosing diseases, for treatment, and for endoscopic surgery. Undergraduate students can request Mori Lab in the lab assignment in the third year of the Department of Computer Science, School of Informatics. (Students in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Electronics, and Information Engineering in the School of Engineering cannot do their graduation research in Mori Lab.)

The Perinatal and Maternal-Child Medicine Lab works in the neonatal division of the Comprehensive Perinatal and Maternal-Child Medical Center, where it engages in clinical work and research in neonatal neurology in addition to caring for newborns. It also provides advanced care that requires extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and therapeutic hypothermia, and is equipped with cerebral function monitoring devices, MRI, and other equipment. In its research, the lab addresses perinatal brain injury and neurological impairment associated with fetal growth restriction, and examines the effects of stem cell–based treatments and drugs. It also studies how drugs used in the NICU affect the immature brain (the research descriptions and publication records cover work up to around 2016).

The Medical Quality and Patient Safety Lab, part of the Department of Patient Safety at the University Hospital, studies how to improve patient safety and the quality of care. Its work includes developing a scoring system that evaluates incident reports numerically. Through joint research, the lab is also involved in developing an education program to train patient safety managers and in measuring its effects.

The General Medical Education Lab is founded on thinking about, teaching, and guiding what a physician should be. The lab believes that growing as a physician requires not only improving technical skills but also growing as a person, and thinks together with its members about how to achieve this. In the professor's message, the expansion of medicine and the spread of the idea of applying findings from educational science to practice are cited as the background to the development of medical education. In its education, the lab goes beyond learning what good education is and how to teach, and deepens what each person values when teaching.

The Medical Pharmacy Lab conducts pharmaceutical research that responds to the needs of clinical practice. Its professor and associate professor also serve as the director and deputy director of the hospital's Department of Pharmacy. By measuring blood drug concentrations, analyzing pharmacokinetics, and searching for risk factors for side effects, the lab aims for safer and more effective drug therapy. The lab also uses mouse models to investigate the disease mechanisms of neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and Alzheimer-type dementia, and to search for targets for drug discovery. In addition to its graduate students, the lab provides research supervision to master's students from pharmacy faculties at other universities, hospital and community pharmacists, and employees of pharmaceutical companies.

The Biostatistics Lab studies biostatistics, which appropriately evaluates uncertainty in medicine and provides the sound evidence needed to choose the best care. Its work centers on three areas: developing new statistical methods, promoting high-quality clinical research, and training the next generation of specialists. The lab studies new statistical theory and methods for the design of increasingly complex clinical trials and for making use of real-world data. Working with researchers inside and outside the university, the lab aims to use statistical knowledge to generate valuable evidence.

The Endowed Department of Renal Failure Systems Therapeutics aims to further advance peritoneal dialysis care and engages in clinical and basic research related to peritoneal dialysis. It explains treatment options so that each patient with chronic kidney failure can choose an appropriate kidney replacement therapy, and works with allied health professionals to support patients on peritoneal dialysis. The educational program on peritoneal dialysis held at Nagoya University, the "Renal Failure Peritoneal Dialysis Seminar BSJNU," is also announced on the department's website.

The Community Medical Education Lab is an endowed department established in the Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine. About once every two months, it holds a community medicine seminar for regional quota students. From the second term, third-year regional quota students are assigned to this lab and hold basic medicine seminars. With the cooperation of faculty from the nearby School of Pharmacy and Department of Nursing, it also runs trials of interprofessional education (IPE).

The Endowed Department of Medicine for Children and Adults with Disabilities was established with a donation from Aichi Prefecture to train physicians involved in the medical care of children and adults with disabilities. Its patients are mainly children whose disabilities began in childhood and people with disabilities who have reached adulthood. They include children and adults with physical disabilities, mainly cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, and skeletal dysplasia; those with severe motor and intellectual disabilities; those with intellectual disabilities; and those with developmental disorders, mainly autism. For medical students, the lab also gives fourth-year lectures and runs fifth-year clinical clerkships.

The Endowed Department of Psychiatric Medicine is introduced on the same website as the psychiatry department of the Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine. The website is shared with the divisions of Psychiatry, Developmental and Geriatric Psychiatry, Psychiatry for Parents and Children, and Elucidation of the Pathophysiology of Mental Disorders. The psychiatry department's research overview covers schizophrenia, depression and bipolar disorder, eating disorders, autism spectrum disorder and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, dementia, and more. This page covers three of the research topics in that overview: neuropathology, clinical pharmacology and epidemiology, and child psychiatry.
