The Hematology Lab studies the mechanisms underlying hematologic cancers such as malignant lymphoma, as well as diseases that arise with aging. Believing that cancer cells are shaped through their interactions with the surrounding microenvironment, the lab investigates them by combining single-cell analysis, spatial omics analysis, and genomic analysis. The lab is attached to a clinical department, and by analyzing patient cohorts, it aims to develop new diagnostics and treatments as well as prevention and preemptive medicine. Lab visits are accepted at any time.

The Department of Gastroenterology treats diseases of a wide range of organs, from the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, and large intestine to the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. Clinical care is divided into the gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary-pancreatic, and chemotherapy divisions, and the latest treatments are provided under the leadership of the supervising physicians of each division. On research, the professor's message of January 2022 states the aim of clearly defining problems faced in everyday clinical practice as research questions and producing results that lead to the development of new treatments. On education, it states that teams including students and residents think through the problems of patients and diseases together, and are guided all the way through how to solve them.

The Respiratory Medicine Lab conducts a broad range of research, from basic to clinical, with the goal of overcoming all respiratory diseases. The main research targets are bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), interstitial pneumonia, lung cancer, and infectious diseases such as nontuberculous mycobacterial disease. It is a clinical department of the University of Tsukuba Hospital, with clinical care, education, and research as its pillars. In graduate school, the lab recruits graduate students and research students for the doctoral program of the Major in Disease Control Medicine, Graduate School of Comprehensive Human Sciences.

Cardiovascular Medicine is a lab of the Institute of Medicine, University of Tsukuba, providing clinical care built on three pillars, heart failure, arrhythmia, and coronary artery and structural heart disease, while also conducting research. It values advancing clinical research and basic research as the two wheels of a cart, and Prof. Ishizu personally has conducted clinical research using echocardiography and animal experiments. It is introduced that the young graduate students of Cardiovascular Medicine have a track record of publishing papers while interacting with other labs in the university. As an open lab, it accepts young physicians from across the country.

The Metabolism, Endocrinology and Diabetes Lab conducts research and clinical care on endocrine and metabolic diseases such as diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Its strength is that it finds starting points for research in the care of patients, applies them to basic research, and can ultimately develop them into applied research that benefits patients. In basic research, each group investigates the functions of molecules involved in metabolism and endocrinology, including CtBP2, a molecule that senses metabolites. Undergraduate students can take part in research through lab practicums and the New Medical Sciences program, and graduate students through degree programs such as the Degree Programs in Medical Sciences.

The Neurology Lab belongs to the neurology field in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tsukuba, and studies the mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases and the development of new therapeutic drugs. Its clinical department is called Neurology (noshinkei-naika in Japanese, literally "brain and nerve internal medicine"), and at the University Hospital it provides specialized care for REM sleep behavior disorder, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and myasthenia gravis. Its research covers both basic research that examines cellular mechanisms and clinical research that examines diagnostic and therapeutic methods. In the lab practicum for students in the College of Medicine, students collect and analyze data themselves, aiming to understand disease mechanisms and treatment.

The dermatology department works in the University of Tsukuba Hospital on clinical care, education, and research related to skin diseases. In research, the team of Professor Toshifumi Nomura focuses on hereditary skin diseases, and the team of Associate Professor Yoshiyuki Nakamura focuses mainly on skin tumors and hidradenitis suppurativa. In the greeting on its recruitment page for new department members, the department describes dermatology as a field in which clinical practice (macro) and research (micro) fit together logically. It aims to train dermatologists who excel in both clinical practice and science and who can explain diseases in their own words.

The lab is based in the Department of Infectious Diseases at University of Tsukuba Hospital, where it provides clinical care for infectious diseases and carries out hospital infection control. When needed, it also takes consultations from inside and outside the hospital about patients in other departments, and gives clinical advice on infections in any organ in patients of all ages. Its clinical areas are general infectious diseases, HIV infection, imported infectious diseases, and hospital infection control. In research, it works on epidemiological studies of hospital-acquired infections and infectious disease surveillance in the southern Ibaraki area.

The lab conducts research on the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer, thyroid cancer, adrenal tumors, and parathyroid tumors. Besides clinical research, it also conducts basic research on the tumor microenvironment of breast cancer and tumor metastasis. In its basic research, it works with the University of Tsukuba's immunology lab and clinical pathology lab on functional analysis of the immune system in carcinogenesis and functional analysis of pheochromocytoma. Its website also introduces its clinical services and the recruitment of resident physicians.

Plastic surgery at the University of Tsukuba treats diseases and injuries that affect appearance and function, mainly through surgery. The conditions it handles include congenital anomalies, wounds, scars, tumors of the body surface, and reconstruction after tumor removal. One of its features is the large number of reconstructions that use microsurgery. Its research covers scar treatment and burn treatment using stem cells, surgery for congenital anomalies of the hands and feet, and more.
