The Transport and Regional Planning Lab plans transport systems that respond to future social needs, and designs urban and transport spaces that enhance regional vitality, safety, and security. Its research includes creating visions and plans for cities and transport at the scale of cities and the nation, and investigating drivers' behavior through indoor experiments. According to the lab's website, the lab originated as a chair in the Department of Construction Engineering, and came to cover civil engineering planning and urban and regional planning in addition to traffic engineering.

The Land Development and Conservation Engineering Lab considers what a comfortable, safe, and secure coastal zone should look like, and studies coastal disaster prevention, coastal and offshore structures, coastal erosion, and the coastal environment and its use. Its research uses field observation and surveys, experiments, and numerical simulation. The lab is part of the Social Infrastructure Engineering field of the Division of Global Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering, and is presented on this site under the name “Coastal Lab.”

The Geotechnical Engineering Lab studies the properties of soil and rock, with research related to waste disposal, countermeasures for soil and groundwater contamination, and ground improvement. To make effective use of by-products from steelmaking, power generation, and construction work as geomaterials, the lab studies their engineering properties and methods for evaluating the effects of hazardous substances on groundwater. The lab also evaluates functions of clay, such as acting as a barrier to water flow and adsorbing hazardous substances, through laboratory tests and numerical analysis. It also develops simulators to predict the changes that occur when high-level radioactive waste or carbon dioxide is stored in rock deep underground.

The Applied Atmospheric Science Lab studies weather and climate using a range of methods from meteorology and climatology, centered on numerical simulation. From basic to applied research, it covers a wide range of meteorological studies and evaluates the effects of climate change on local communities. The lab also works with other labs within the division and the Graduate School to carry out research that returns meteorological knowledge to society. Newly established on March 1, 2025, it is a research lab specializing in meteorology, a field that Osaka University did not previously have.

The Structural Engineering Lab studies steel structures such as bridges, focusing on thermal processing technologies such as welding and heating, the properties of steel, and corrosion and corrosion protection. Through experiments and analysis, the lab investigates the forces and deformation that arise in members due to welding and heating, as well as the mechanical behavior of corroded steel plates. The lab has exchanges with universities in Hungary, South Korea, and China, holding joint seminars and mutual visits. The lab also organizes tours of bridge fabrication plants and repair sites.

The Social Infrastructure Management Lab studies asset management for infrastructure facilities that are aging and deteriorating, such as bridges, roads, and water and sewer systems. The lab believes that research and development integrating the humanities and sciences is essential, linking an engineering aspect, predicting facility deterioration, with an economic aspect, minimizing life-cycle cost. The core method is an approach using probability theory and mathematical statistics.

The Social Infrastructure Design Lab (Kamada Lab) conducts research to improve maintenance technologies for social infrastructure structures. The lab works on nondestructive testing to examine internal defects and rebar corrosion in concrete structures without damaging them, and on clarifying the mechanisms by which deterioration occurs. For steel structures, the lab also studies how to evaluate fatigue performance under repeated loading. The lab's philosophy is to scientifically clarify the health of social infrastructure and open up next-generation diagnostic technologies.

The Concrete Structures Lab aims to build a safe and secure society through structural engineering, and conducts research involving experiments, analysis, and theory. Recently, the lab has been studying how reinforced concrete and masonry buildings behave during earthquakes and how to evaluate their performance. The lab also works on developing new construction techniques for concrete buildings and on field surveys in earthquake-stricken areas. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name Concrete Structure Laboratory (known as Labo. 2).

The Architecture and Urban Human Factors Lab studies the interrelationship between the spatial structures and social systems of architecture and cities, and human behavior and psychology. By clarifying this relationship, the lab works on research related to the spatial composition of architecture and cities, disaster prevention planning, community facilities, and methods for improving housing and residential areas. The main research themes are human factors in architecture and cities, housing management, suburban residential areas, urban and spatial analysis, and community facility planning and architectural planning. The lab welcomes participation in its lab seminars and lab visits.

The Yasufuku Lab (Architectural and Urban Form Engineering) applies ICT to research community design for architecture, cities, and society. Its research ranges from the development of urban and social infrastructure to VR technology and evacuation simulation for disasters. The lab belongs to the D3 Center at Osaka University, and also operates as a cooperating field of the Architectural Engineering Section in the Division of Global Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering.
