The Cancer Genome Informatics Lab focuses its research on cancer genome analysis and gut microbiota analysis. It sets out to understand and take on cancer from the perspective of genome evolution. The lab's website presents research results on cancers such as pancreatic cancer and colorectal cancer. The professor has stated a wish to engage in education, research, and cancer genomic medicine with a small, elite team of colleagues who share the same aspirations.

The Reproductive Genetics Lab studies how the mammalian germline is formed and maintained in the body. The germline is the only cell lineage among those making up the body that can give rise to the next generation of individuals. Using techniques such as cell culture, genome editing, imaging, and omics analysis, the lab investigates mainly the oocyte lineage that leads to eggs. Based on the findings, the lab is also developing reconstitution technologies to generate germ cells from pluripotent stem cells.

The Organ System Creation Lab researches how to create three-dimensional organs, known as organoids (artificial organs), from human iPS cells. In end-stage organ failure, where transplantation is the only hope, the shortage of donor organs is a serious problem. The lab conducts its research to take on this challenge. By using artificially induced organs, the lab aims to open paths toward personalized medicine, drug discovery, and regenerative medicine. At Osaka University's Graduate School of Medicine, the lab is presented as the Department of Organ System Creation within the Division of Genome Biology.

The Neuroinformatics Lab applies artificial intelligence to brain signals such as EEG and magnetoencephalography to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic methods. The lab regards physiological signals obtained from implanted devices, wearable devices, and the like as neural information in a broad sense, and aims to decode and control them. By developing new technologies together with researchers in fields such as informatics, engineering, and neuroscience, and putting them into clinical use, the lab aims to create new medicine. On the lab's website, it is presented under the name "Yanagisawa Lab."

The Sports Medicine Lab is the Department of Sports Medicine within the Division of Health and Sports Science at Osaka University's Graduate School of Medicine, and conducts basic research aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal diseases. Through cutting-edge research and graduate education in health and sports medicine and science, the Division of Health and Sports Science aims to build an international hub for research and education. The division's graduate students come from diverse backgrounds, including physicians, allied health professionals such as nurses and physical therapists, health and sports science, and engineering. Lab visits and meetings are accepted at any time.

The Cardiovascular Medicine Lab is the internal medicine department that treats the heart. It provides care from emergency and acute stages to chronic stages, and conducts research from basic science to clinical studies. Research is divided among several groups, which work in cooperation with one another. In the graduate school, the lab conducts a broad range of research, from basic studies using the latest molecular biochemical methods to clinical research. Applicants to the graduate school are not necessarily required to be medical school graduates or to have passed the national medical licensing examination.

The Endocrinology and Metabolism Lab integrates clinical care, research, and education for diabetes and for endocrine and metabolic diseases. The department has four labs, the First through the Fourth, each pursuing distinctive clinical and basic research. Prof. Shimomura has worked on elucidating the pathophysiology of visceral fat obesity and on the discovery of adiponectin, a hormone derived from adipocytes. The department's guiding principles include respecting senior colleagues while nurturing those who follow, and enjoying academic study at the university.

The Respiratory Medicine and Clinical Immunology Lab provides clinical care in respiratory medicine and clinical immunology, while pursuing research that approaches the essence of disease and education that trains outstanding clinicians and researchers. The department opened in 1905 as the Department of Pulmonary Tuberculosis (Hairo-ka), which treated tuberculosis, and developed as the Third Department of Internal Medicine. After a reorganization in 2005, it took its present form, comprising respiratory medicine and clinical immunology. The lab is also affiliated with the Infection Pathogenesis group at the Immunology Frontier Research Center (iFReC) of the University of Osaka, where it also carries out basic research.

The lab is a clinical department that integrates geriatric medicine and general medicine, working on both clinical care and research for older patients. Research is carried out by groups on dementia, frailty and sarcopenia, and hypertension and aging, together with a general medicine group. The shared goal is to achieve healthy longevity and contribute to building a vibrant, bright super-aged society. The lab also focuses on training physicians who combine specialized skills in geriatric care and general medicine with a research mindset.
