The Superconducting Systems Science Research Center studies superconductivity from materials to wires, devices, and sensors. The research introduction page lists topics such as fabrication of superconducting thin films, visualization of flux pinning sites, characterization of superconducting wires, development of high-temperature superconducting devices, and high-sensitivity magnetic sensors. One of these topics, the study of the critical current of superconducting wires, examines their current-carrying capability from both theoretical and experimental perspectives.

The Materials Conversion Science Unit (AEM) is one of the research divisions of the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research at Kyushu University. Its goal is to develop molecular and nano materials and structural materials based on new science of surfaces, interfaces, and microstructures for using hydrogen, water, and carbon dioxide. Research is carried out in two areas: catalytic materials and structural materials. The principal investigators include faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering, the Institute for Materials Chemistry and Engineering, and other units.

The Multiscale Structure Science Unit is one of the research divisions of the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I²CNER), and it studies the challenges faced in the transition from a fossil-fuel-centered society to a carbon-neutral one. The challenges span a range of scales, and the unit covers CO₂ capture by membrane separation, geological CO₂ storage and management, energy-saving technologies, socio-techno-economic and policy analysis, and thermal energy conversion. The unit also incorporates mathematical methods such as optimization and agent-based models. According to the unit, this allows it to develop dynamic models relevant to integrating renewable energy and distributed energy resources into the power grid, and to improving the efficiency and safety of combustion processes.

The Mitsui Chemicals Carbon Neutral Research Center is divided into divisions for green hydrogen production and use, CO2 separation and capture, CO2 conversion and fixation, and advanced analysis and evaluation, each conducting its own research. The hydrogen division works on developing the component technologies for producing and using green hydrogen. The CO2 divisions develop technologies for separating CO2 from sources such as factory flue gas, as well as conversion technologies that turn the captured CO2 into chemical products. The center is located on Kyushu University's Ito Campus, and faculty from multiple research institutes and research faculties participate in each division.

The Research Center for Next-Generation Refrigerant Properties (NEXT-RP) is a hub for research collaboration in Japan and abroad, aimed at the development and evaluation of next-generation refrigerants. Refrigerants are substances used in refrigerators and air conditioners. Fluorocarbon refrigerants have been a problem because of ozone layer depletion, and their replacement, HFCs, because of their large impact on global warming. The center conducts fundamental research on the thermophysical properties, heat exchange characteristics, and basic cycle performance of new refrigerants with zero ODP and low GWP, which place a small burden on the environment. It carries out this research not only with labs at Kyushu University but also in collaboration with universities and research institutions in Japan and abroad.

The Applied Data Science Division is a research division of the Research Institute for Information Technology, where Professor Kenji Ono studies computational fluid dynamics, visualization, and parallel computing. Professor Ono develops simulators for thermal fluid flow around objects with complex shapes, as well as technologies for large-scale parallel visualization systems. Associate Professor Toshihiro Uchibayashi studies mechanisms in edge computing that prevent data from being sent to unintended places. The division also works on infrastructure for distributing personal data and on supporting regional public transportation.

The Educational Information Infrastructure Division is a division of the Research Institute for Information Technology, whose faculty research areas include learning support systems and educational technology. Assistant Professor Huiyong Li studies how to build environments, using data such as learning logs, in which students can advance their learning on their own initiative. Associate Professor Changhao Liang uses learning records to investigate how to choose peers who teach each other and how to form groups.

The lab conducts research centered on cybersecurity to realize secure, high-performance information infrastructure. Its main research themes include Moving Target Defense (MTD), threat tracing that reproduces and analyzes attacks, and dynamic malware analysis. Beyond theoretical study, the lab emphasizes implementation and evaluation, aiming to establish technologies ready for real-world operation. Members build their knowledge and practical skills through study groups, rotating-presenter reading seminars, and team participation in CTF competitions.
