The Molecular Parasitology Lab studies the mechanisms of gene expression in parasites that cause diseases such as malaria and African sleeping sickness. Focusing on the fact that the way the cap structure at the end of mRNA is formed differs between parasites and humans, the lab aims to develop new drugs that target it. As another pillar of its research, the lab studies the mechanisms by which damaged RNA is repaired, in particular the function of RNA ligase, an enzyme that joins RNA. The core of the research is cell culture, molecular biochemistry experiments, genetic experiments, and RNA cloning.

The Immunology Lab studies the mechanisms of immune responses, using the immune receptors on the surface of immune cells as a clue. Immune cells exchange information with each other through receptors, activating and suppressing one another to produce an immune response. The lab was the first in the world to identify new immune receptors such as DNAM-1, and has investigated their involvement in allergy, autoimmune diseases, and carcinogenesis using animal models and other methods. The lab aims to develop new treatments for intractable diseases, and joint research on some of the receptors is under way with venture companies and pharmaceutical companies.

The Genetic Medicine Lab uses genetic research methods to clarify the pathology of allergic diseases and other conditions, and conducts research aimed at personalized medicine. Using genome-wide methods that comprehensively examine the whole genome, the lab searches for genes involved in the onset of asthma, allergic rhinitis, hay fever, and food allergy. The lab also independently works on developing treatments using the HLA peptide-binding assay. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "Genetic Medicine, Institute of Medicine, University of Tsukuba."

The Regenerative Stem Cell Biology Lab uses human-derived stem cells to study the mechanisms of cell proliferation and differentiation and how cells respond to hypoxia. The lab works on the hypoxic response, tissue stem cells, cancer and stem cells, and retinal regeneration for glaucoma. It aims to apply its findings clinically and contribute to the advancement of regenerative medicine. The lab's website also introduces it under the name "Ohneda Lab."

The Stem Cell Therapy Lab is part of the Division of Biomedical Science, Institute of Medicine, University of Tsukuba. The members page lists Professor Shigeru Chiba, Associate Professor Eiji Mizutani, and Assistant Professor Naoki Ohtsu as faculty. The lab is located in the Health and Medical Science Innovation Building at the University of Tsukuba in Tsukuba City.

The Applied Medical Physics Lab's website introduces "RaMSEP," an educational program that trains professionals who can respond to radiation disasters. The skills needed in a radiation disaster change over time. The program builds its training around the keyword "all phases," covering every phase from immediately after the disaster to the preparedness phase. Education rests on three pillars: undergraduate education, graduate education, and postgraduate lifelong education (a certificate program). In graduate school, a new research field, "Radiation Health Risk Science," has been established, and doctoral students receive research supervision.

The Molecular Environmental Physiology Lab does research in environmental physiology and pathological biochemistry, with oxidative stress and biological defense as its research keywords. Focusing on p62, a selective substrate of autophagy, the lab investigates how its localization inside cells is controlled, how it moves, and what it does. Functional analysis of genes that respond to oxidative stress is also an ongoing research theme. What kinds of disease conditions abnormalities in p62 cause is also a subject of study.

The Medical Education Lab supports students and faculty and staff of the Faculty of Medicine on the English-language side so that they can communicate their research in English. Its support includes English editing of manuscripts, slides, and posters, and rehearsals for oral presentations. The lab offers English conversation opportunities for faculty, and also keeps biomedical dictionaries and books on writing scientific papers. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name Medical English Communications Center (MECC).
