The Image Science and Technology Lab researches technologies that use artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze medical images such as chest X-ray images. Its work includes techniques that emphasize tumors and bones from two images taken under different imaging conditions, and methods aimed at early detection of interstitial pneumonia and detection of new pathological conditions of osteoporosis from chest X-rays. The research uses information such as X-ray images of patients taken at facilities including Osaka University Hospital and Kitasato University Hospital.

The Biological Function Imaging Lab studies how the brain works using imaging, a method that makes neural activity visible. The brain is an information-processing device in which countless neurons are connected by synapses, and understanding how it works requires obtaining information from multiple cells at the same time. The lab therefore measures the activity of many cells using methods such as optical imaging with microscopes, and focuses in particular on research into the basal ganglia. For graduate school, students can join this lab through the entrance exam of either the Division of Health Sciences in the Graduate School of Medicine or the Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences.

The Pathological Ultrasound Medicine Lab aims to develop non-invasive tests (NITs) for digestive diseases using ultrasound. The lab combines ultrasound with blood biomarkers to create more accurate diagnostic methods. Clinical and basic research go hand in hand, with studies using animal models and human clinical data. The lab welcomes students who work as radiologic technologists, who aim to join medical companies, or who want to become researchers or university faculty.

The Molecular Imaging Lab conducts fundamental research on nuclear medicine diagnostic imaging and molecular imaging. The lab also studies technical aspects of cardiac nuclear medicine, as well as imaging of brain and nervous system function and its analysis. Basic and clinical research on cancer imaging is also one of the lab's main research themes.

The Radiation Therapy Biology Lab studies cancer treatment using various types of radiation from a biological perspective. Using X-rays, gamma rays, particle beams, neutron beams, and other types of radiation, the lab investigates topics such as combinations of radiation and immune checkpoint inhibitors. In collaboration with the Department of Radiation Oncology in the Department of Medicine and the Medical Physics Lab in the Department of Health Sciences, the lab aims to improve treatment outcomes for cancer patients. The lab also collaborates with institutions in Japan and abroad, including the Hyogo Ion Beam Medical Center and City of Hope in the United States.

The Clinical Imaging Medicine Lab studies diagnostic radiology, the field of diagnosing diseases throughout the body from images such as X-ray, CT, and MRI. Diagnostic radiology is regarded as an essential field for detecting diseases early and making accurate diagnoses. In diagnostic practice, clinicians are expected to keep learning new knowledge and technology, and to calmly analyze problems that arise during examinations and find solutions. The lab works to create an environment where such efforts can be pursued.

The Medical Magnetic Resonance Lab studies the condition of the lungs using MRI with hyperpolarized xenon. Using hyperpolarized XeMRI, which raises the polarization of xenon to increase NMR sensitivity tens of thousands of times, the lab images the lungs, which has been difficult with conventional MRI. The lab has worked on developing a preclinical evaluation system using hyperpolarized XeMRI, which has made early diagnosis and treatment possible for intractable lung diseases such as pulmonary emphysema and pulmonary fibrosis. The English name of the lab's website is Laboratory of Isotope Kinetics. The content of the research introduction page dates from around 2019.

The Advanced Imaging Technology Lab develops advanced diagnostic imaging technologies in radiological technology and magnetic resonance medicine, aiming to evaluate diseases of organs such as the brain, lungs, heart, and liver and to elucidate their pathology. With access to a preclinical ultra-high-field 7T MRI, a permanent-magnet 1.5T MRI, micro-CT, and other equipment, the lab examines disease models in animals such as rats and mice through imaging. The lab welcomes students who want to work clinically in hospitals as radiologic technologists, as well as students aiming to become researchers or university faculty.

The Radiation Informatics Lab conducts research on medical information, with a particular focus on information related to radiation. Its main research themes are assessing the actual state of radiation therapy and computer-aided diagnosis of medical images. The lab carries out its research using radiation therapy information and medical image information. The lab is organized in cooperation with the Medical Physics Lab (Prof. Nishio).

The Immune and Hematopoietic Regulation Lab (Oji Lab) conducts research under the themes of "taking on cancer with the power of immunity" and "why does cancer develop?" With WT1 vaccine therapy as its main theme, the lab develops tests to examine immune function and methods to efficiently induce and maintain antitumor immune responses. The lab aims to clarify the function of the Wilms' tumor gene WT1 as an oncogene and, based on this, to develop new molecularly targeted cancer therapies.
