Yoshiko Wazumi, Professor
0 student voices
Prof. Wazumi's lab studies nursing theory, continuing education for nurses, and nursing policy. One of its themes is developing nursing theory and evaluating it by applying it to nursing practice and nursing management. The lab also develops continuing education programs that help nurses keep learning while they work. It also accepts research that analyzes the structure of the processes through which nursing policy is made and that proposes policy recommendations.

Yukari Sugita, Associate Professor
0 student voices
Associate Professor Sugita's lab studies community health nursing, public health nursing, and nursing management. One of its themes is the competencies required of nurses in leadership positions when building community care systems. The lab also develops and evaluates health guidance programs for preventing lifestyle-related diseases, as well as learning programs for public health nurses working in government. It also supports the learning of nurse managers working in a range of community organizations, such as government agencies, home-visit nursing stations, and hospitals.

Shujun Qian, Associate Professor
0 student voices
Associate Professor Qian's lab studies the relationship between lifestyle patterns and subjective symptoms in women in young and middle adulthood. The lab also works on using IoT devices to support lifestyle improvement, and on building models, based on salutogenesis, that help women reflect on their own health. It is exploring ways to immediately sense the state of the mind and body, which changes with the environment and time of day, and to aim for a well-balanced state. At the graduate level, it also accepts nursing research that draws on the idea of CoDesign (collaborative design).

Rie Iino, Lecturer
0 student voices
Lecturer Rie Iino's lab studies public health nursing. The lab's themes are what functions public health nursing performs and what characteristics it has. In the graduate program, the lab accepts research on community assessment, lifestyle-related disease prevention activities carried out in collaboration with residents, and public health services for maternal and child health. The lab considers what kinds of nursing support can help people live with peace of mind in the communities they are used to.

Shun Kojima, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The Kojima Lab conducts research that integrates wireless communications, signal processing, information security, and machine learning across disciplines to create next-generation communication technologies. For unsolved problems in wireless communications and machine learning, the lab devises new theories and methods and verifies them through computer simulations and experiments. Each student's research topic is decided through discussion so that it is independent of the others, and students carry it out while discussing it one-on-one with the faculty member at weekly meetings. The lab aims to share its research results with the world through international conferences and international journals.

Norimichi Suzuki, Associate Professor

The Healthy Living Environment Creation Lab studies how the various environments of the homes and towns where people live affect their health. Based on the idea of "environmental-improvement preventive medicine," in which improving the environment changes people's behavior and prevents disease, the lab aims to create environments that make people healthier just by living in them. The lab gathers evidence through epidemiological surveys and live-in experimental houses, and aims for social implementation, putting its research results to use in homes and towns. Researchers from many fields, including medicine, engineering, UX design, and science, take part.
Akinori Abe, Professor

The lab centers on artificial intelligence and studies intelligent reasoning that uses higher-order inference such as abduction. It also conducts research on chance discovery, which finds rare or new events that may become risks or benefits in the future. In language engineering, which focuses on the sensibility-related aspects of language, the lab is developing mechanisms to (semi-)automatically generate poems, catchphrases, and the like by computer. This research is oriented toward many areas, including machine reasoning as well as art and economics.
Makoto Ichikawa, Professor
0 student voices
The lab uses experimental methods to study the characteristics of human perceptual and cognitive processes and sensibility. Professor Makoto Ichikawa investigates the effects that the spatiotemporal characteristics of visual and auditory stimuli have on perceptual and cognitive processes, as well as the factors that influence the characteristics of experienced time and space. The aim is to obtain a clearer answer to the question of what time and space are for humans. Assistant Professor Junji Yanagi uses experiments to examine the characteristics of human visual function in motion perception and stereopsis.
Eiji Kimura, Professor

From the standpoint of perceptual psychology, the lab studies the mechanisms of vision. In particular, it focuses on questions such as how colors are distinguished and how information from the left and right eyes is integrated. Its methods are perceptual experiments, which examine active, voluntary responses to stimuli, and pupillary response measurement, which measures the involuntary responses of the pupil caused by stimuli. Using these methods, the lab aims to clarify the mechanisms of visual processing.
Yasuharu Den, Professor

The lab studies human face-to-face communication from many angles, ranging from grammar and prosody to gestures and gaze. Using video-recorded conversation data, it conducts empirical research that combines quantitative and qualitative analysis. The research is interdisciplinary, spanning linguistics, psychology, and informatics. Recently, the lab has been analyzing everyday conversation, martial arts instruction, and festival preparation.
