The Vaccine Creation Group Yoshioka Lab researches the development of new vaccines against infectious diseases. Based on drug delivery science, safety science and toxicology, and protein engineering, the lab aims to achieve both strong vaccine efficacy and a level of safety and reassurance that allows people of all ages and genders to be vaccinated. Currently, the lab works on mRNA vaccines with reduced adverse reactions, intranasal vaccines, and antigen design based on structural vaccinology, and has also begun work on mRNA vaccines against cancer. In collaboration with the Research Foundation for Microbial Diseases of Osaka University (BIKEN), a leading company in vaccine development, the lab aims to create "the vaccines of 10 years from now."

The Virus Vaccine Group conducts virus research targeting infectious diseases for which no vaccines have been developed so far. Its targets include infectious diseases caused by pathogens that cannot be controlled by humoral immunity alone or that cannot be cultured, and diseases for which there is no animal model, making it difficult to evaluate efficacy. The goal is to develop a "world-first vaccine from Japan." The group is part of the BIKEN Next-Generation Vaccine Collaborative Research Institute, and through collaboration with the BIKEN Foundation, it pursues both basic and applied research.
