The Advanced Data Medical Science Lab aims to understand and overcome diseases using human genome and omics data. It seeks to uncover how hereditary diseases and lifestyle-related diseases develop, and to transform prevention, diagnosis, and treatment based on genome and omics information. The lab combines large-scale genome analysis with transcriptome and proteome analysis, functional analysis, and disease models. The lab was newly established as a lab that advances data-driven medical science, carrying on the tradition of the Department of Biochemistry I in the Faculty of Medicine at Chiba University.

The Cognitive Behavioral Physiology Lab aims to advance the science of the brain and mind. It combines techniques from many fields, including cognitive behavioral science, brain science, psychiatry, psychology, neuroscience, molecular biology, and electrophysiology, to uncover how the brain and mind function. The lab places importance on maintaining scientific mental health in a stressful, highly information-driven society, and aims for early detection and early treatment of brain and mind disorders caused by information overload. It also conducts clinical research on cognitive behavioral therapy for problems such as anxiety and obsessions, as well as brain imaging research using MRI.

The Functional Morphology Lab investigates how nerve fibers are connected in the human brain, with the aim of understanding the mechanisms of cognitive function. The lab combines white matter dissection using the Klingler method with brain imaging such as tractography and fMRI. It has reported, among other findings, that the thalamus is a connector hub linking subnetworks of the cerebral cortex. The lab also works to clarify the pathology of cerebral infarction and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The Psychiatry Lab began in 1907 as the chair of psychiatry and has a history of nearly 120 years. As a university hospital and general hospital, it actively accepts patients with physical comorbidities while focusing on five pillars: child and adolescent psychiatry, cognitive behavioral therapy, liaison psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and disaster medicine. In research, the lab plans to promote collaborative research on therapeutics and pathophysiology, not only for psychiatric disorders but also for the psychosomatic field where "mind, brain, and body" overlap. The lab aims to publish results that meet the needs of clinical practice and to train physicians and researchers who can work internationally.

The Ophthalmology Lab has a history of more than 140 years and has played a central role in ophthalmic care in Chiba. The eyeball is a small organ about 2.5 cm in diameter, but it is an important one, giving us vision, which accounts for 80% of human sensation. The lab actively adopts new technologies and drugs and maintains a system that can provide cutting-edge treatment. The lab continues clinical research grounded in real-world clinical practice to help in the treatment of patients.

The lab's philosophy is to strive to train medical professionals who truly contribute to the advancement of clinical neurology, and to provide the best possible medical care, for the sake of patients. Aiming to overcome intractable neurological diseases, the lab conducts research in nine research groups, covering conditions from Parkinson's disease to neuroimmunological diseases and dementia. Using methods such as axonal excitability testing and transcranial magnetic stimulation, the lab investigates how nerve excitability is involved in disease. Founded in 1978 as the neurology research division of the Brain Function Research Facility, the lab has advanced clinical care and research on neurodegenerative and immune-mediated neurological diseases.

The lab works on surgical treatment of diseases of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves, and on research into their diagnosis and treatment. It covers a wide range of areas: cerebrovascular disease, brain tumors, functional neurosurgery, spinal and spinal cord disease, pediatric disorders, and neurotrauma. At the Comprehensive Stroke Center of Chiba University Hospital, the lab is actively engaged in treatments such as endovascular thrombectomy. It also places importance on educating young doctors, for example through hands-on seminars at the Clinical Anatomy Laboratory (CAL), held with the cooperation of the Department of Anatomy.

The lab studies diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system, which supports and moves the body, including the lower back, neck, joints, and limbs. It has clinical and research groups for the lumbar spine; the cervical spine and spinal cord; rheumatism and the hip; the knee and sports medicine; the shoulder; hand surgery; foot surgery; trauma; and bone metastasis tumors. Rather than "research for research's sake," the whole lab conducts research that is directly connected to clinical practice and keeps the benefit to patients in mind. It also takes on new fields, such as performing arts medicine (PAM) for musicians and dancers.

The lab studies the function of transporters, which carry substances in and out of cells. It investigates transporters of uric acid, drugs, and amino acids, aiming to develop new uric acid-lowering drugs and anticancer drugs. Its other pillar is research on neuropeptides, examining how the brain regulates eating and drinking behavior. Founded in 1924 as the Department of Pharmacology at Chiba Medical College, the lab marked its 100th anniversary in 2024.

The lab works on pathological diagnosis and pathology research, focusing on human pathology and surgical pathology. Pathological diagnosis is a medical act involved in deciding treatment plans and evaluating the appropriateness of surgery, and it is fundamental to treating diseases including cancer. In pathology research, the lab analyzes the mechanisms that generate disease diversity from the perspective of tumor stem cells, using histopathological and molecular biological approaches. The lab traces its origin to the Pathology Division of the Lung Cancer Research Facility; it passed through the Basic Pathology lab and became the current Diagnostic Pathology lab in 2005.
