The Disaster and Community Psychiatry Lab is a department that studies mental health care during disasters, suicide prevention, and related topics. In ordinary times, its members work in psychiatric care in Ibaraki Prefecture (psychiatric emergency care and consultation-liaison psychiatry). During disasters, they take part in disaster mental health, medical care, and welfare, including through DPAT. The lab studies the mental health of disaster survivors and responders, suicide prevention, and the mental health of older adults and university students. It took over the Department of Disaster Psychiatric Support, which was established in 2013, and was founded in 2015 as an endowed department funded by Ibaraki Prefecture.

The pediatrics clinical group at University of Tsukuba Hospital provides medical care to children, conducts research, and trains young doctors. The hospital has abandoned the traditional departmental chair system (ikyoku) and uses a clinical group system instead. The group provides advanced specialist care in hematology and oncology, immunology and collagen diseases, allergy, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology and metabolism, gastroenterology, neonatology, emergency medicine, genetics, and nephrology. It has a pediatric emergency and critical care center, and also treats childhood cancer with proton beam therapy.

Obstetrics and Gynecology is a field in the Institute of Medicine at the University of Tsukuba, and provides care through separate teams for gynecology, obstetrics (perinatal medicine), and reproductive endocrinology. In the professor's greeting, it is stated that the mission of an obstetrician-gynecologist is to stay by a patient's side from the moment a life begins to shine until the time that life is fulfilled. To fulfill this mission, the lab aims to pass knowledge, skill, and compassion on to young doctors and to face patients with sincerity. Prospective visitors are accepted at any time, and the lab also holds information sessions on advanced residency training for medical students and junior residents.

The Diagnostic Imaging and IVR Lab studies diagnostic imaging such as CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine, as well as interventional radiology (IVR), which also leads to treatment. The lab's website describes it as the core of diagnostic imaging and IVR in Ibaraki Prefecture, responsible for clinical care, research, and education. Its research includes AI-based image analysis, photoimmunotherapy for cancer, and clinical trials of embolization for liver cancer. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "Department of Diagnostic Radiology and IVR, University of Tsukuba Hospital."

The Radiation Oncology Lab works on clinical care and research in radiation therapy for cancer at the Proton Therapy Center, which is part of the university hospital. The University of Tsukuba began full-scale research on proton therapy in 1983, giving it the longest history of any institution in Japan. Proton therapy can focus radiation precisely on the cancer lesion, so it has little effect on the surrounding normal cells and is characterized by milder side effects. In addition, the Proton Medical Research Center makes research and development of boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), a new cancer treatment, its other main pillar.

The Radiation Health Risk Science group runs the Radiation Health Risk Science Education Program (RaMSEP) at the Institute of Medicine, University of Tsukuba. The program aims to train people who can respond to all phases of a radiation disaster, from immediately after it occurs through recovery and preparation for the next disaster. It has three pillars: undergraduate (college) education, graduate education, and postgraduate lifelong education (a certificate program). In the graduate school, a research field called "Radiation Health Risk Science" has been established, where doctoral students receive research supervision.

The Anesthesiology Lab studies a wide range of conditions related to anesthesiology, including perioperative and intensive care medicine and pathological pain. Using experimental animal models, the lab visualizes the breakdown of cellular-level homeostasis in major organs such as the central nervous system, cardiovascular system, and respiratory system, with the aim of clarifying the mechanisms of disease. Using perioperative databases, the lab identifies problems and risk factors in current standard care, with the aim of developing new evidence-based strategies for perioperative management.

The Clinical Laboratory Medicine Lab conducts research in laboratory medicine, including genetic and biochemical methods for diagnosing pheochromocytoma. In sports medicine, its research keywords include anti-doping, exercise therapy for lifestyle-related diseases, and analysis of changes in stress markers. The lab's head, Prof. Takekoshi, is a physician certified as both a clinical laboratory specialist and a clinical genetics specialist. The lab's website introduces it as the Clinical Laboratory Medicine / Sports Medicine lab in the Institute of Medicine at the University of Tsukuba.

The Sports Medical Science Lab specializes in sports medicine (anti-doping) and endocrinology, and studies topics such as developing new anti-doping technologies and the genetic diagnosis of pheochromocytoma. Many substances used for doping are hormones, so the lab treats anti-doping as a branch of endocrinology. From the standpoint of a clinical genetics specialist, the lab also pursues research on using individual genetic differences to tailor exercise prescriptions to each person. The information on the lab's website dates from around 2016.

The Clinical Pharmacy Lab analyzes genetic polymorphisms in drug-metabolizing enzymes and transporter proteins, and studies drug-drug interactions. Focusing on immunosuppressants for kidney transplant patients, antiarrhythmic drugs, and tyrosine kinase inhibitors, the lab examines how genetic differences and drug combinations affect treatment. The lab also analyzes side effects and interactions of Kampo (traditional Japanese herbal) medicines and works on predicting blood drug concentrations.
