The Excited Materials Chemistry Lab (Fujitsuka Lab) uses light and radiation to bring molecules into high-energy states and studies the chemical reactions that take place there. The lab applies light and radiation under spatial and temporal control, and develops chemistry that controls reactions by exploiting the properties of molecules and of the reaction environment. Its methods include nanosecond-to-femtosecond laser flash photolysis and pulse radiolysis. The lab is recruiting graduate students for the Department of Applied Chemistry, Graduate School of Engineering, and welcomes lab visits.

The Molecular System Creation Chemistry Lab (Yamaguchi Lab) uses synthetic organic chemistry to study new molecular systems for obtaining previously unknown biological information. The lab creates synthetic molecules with desired functions, develops systems that control or visualize biomolecules and cells, and acquires data that no one could obtain before. The molecular systems it develops serve as platform technologies for solving a wide range of problems, from medical fields such as regenerative medicine, drug discovery, and diagnostics to food and environmental fields such as useful-substance production and biosensors. The lab pursues applied research on them with collaborators in Japan and abroad. In guiding students, the lab values an approach in which students investigate the background of a problem, form a hypothesis, and test whether it is true through experiments.

The Biomolecular Reaction Science Lab studies the various life phenomena based on interactions (reactions) between biomolecules. Based on the mechanisms uncovered, it aims to develop technologies that contribute to bio-related industries, especially the development of biopharmaceuticals. The lab also works to clarify the active-site structure, three-dimensional structure, and catalytic mechanism of enzymes, which are biocatalysts. Graduate students are admitted through the cooperating course of the Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences and through the Department of Biological Sciences, Graduate School of Science, where the lab's faculty hold concurrent positions within the university.

The Biomolecular Regulation Science Lab (Nishino Lab) studies how to prevent infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria, which cannot be killed by antibacterial drugs. Drug efflux pumps in bacteria expel antibacterial drugs and other substances from inside the cell, and are a cause of multidrug resistance. It has been found that bacterial genomes harbor a surprisingly large number of drug efflux pump genes. The lab is a research group of the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research, The University of Osaka, and is also introduced as the Cell Biology (Biological) group of the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
