Yuya Tachikawa, Associate Professor
0 student voices
Associate Professor Yuya Tachikawa is developing high-temperature fuel cells and methods to analyze them, with the theme of achieving high-efficiency power generation aimed at reducing CO2. In the Hydrogen Utilization Process Lab, Associate Professor Tachikawa and colleagues are researching how to visualize, through numerical analysis and experiments, the temperature changes, chemical reactions, and thermal stress distribution that occur inside fuel cells. Based on a vision of a future hydrogen-based society, the lab also examines the effects of producing hydrogen with renewable energy and develops technologies toward CO2-free energy. This lab site belongs to the Hydrogen Utilization Process Lab headed by Professor Kazunari Sasaki, and Associate Professor Tachikawa is listed as a member.

The Electrode Materials and Porous Diffusion Layers Lab studies fuel cell and water electrolysis technologies, which handle energy conversion for renewable energy and hydrogen. In water electrolysis, which splits water with electricity to produce hydrogen, the lab works on designing cell structures that achieve both high efficiency and high durability while reducing the amount of precious metals used. For solid oxide cells, which operate at high temperatures, the lab investigates the relationship between electrode degradation and the acid-base properties of the electrode surface through international collaborative research. The lab's website presents it within the research of the Hydrogen Utilization Process Lab.

Design strategies for oxide catalysts (perovskite oxides) used in energy conversion technologies based on green hydrogen

Yuriko Hayabuchi, Professor
0 student voices
Professor Yuriko Hayabuchi's lab takes the design of a sustainable decarbonized society as its research theme. Its research fields are described as environmental policy and an environmentally conscious society. Professor Hayabuchi holds a professorship at the Offshore Wind Research and Education Center. Professor Hayabuchi also holds concurrent positions at the Industry-Academia Collaboration Research Center for Next-Generation Fuel Cells, the Research and Education Institute for Energy, and the Sustainable Hydrogen Institute.

Shigemi Kagawa, Professor

Professor Shigemi Kagawa's lab focuses on empirical research on policies for the environment, energy, and resource management. It interprets real-world economic and environmental trends from socioeconomic statistics and environmental statistics. The lab aims to provide information that helps people understand the world and contributes to solving problems. Its main themes are the environmental and economic assessment of circular socioeconomic systems, analysis of sustainable consumer behavior, and analysis of the relationship between international trade and energy and the environment.

The lab focuses on corporate environmental conservation efforts and trends in environmental business, and studies the policies and institutions that can reduce environmental burden while supporting economic development. It also looks at initiatives related to the SDGs and at corporate sustainable finance. In the undergraduate lab seminar, students analyze companies' financial and non-financial data and examine it from an economic perspective. In graduate school, students are expected to pursue their research with a research question of their own: what kinds of institutions and policies would lead people to act in more environmentally friendly ways.

Tomoaki Nakaishi, Associate Professor

The lab studies, from an economics perspective, what "sustainable production and consumption" that takes the environment and society into account should look like. The lab holds that a society of mass production and mass consumption gives rise to problems such as climate change, air pollution, and child labor, and that a transition to a sustainable society is necessary. The research is divided into sustainability analyses of production activities, consumer behavior, and supply chains. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "Nakaishi Lab."

The lab studies, from a management perspective, the process of turning technologies born at universities into businesses, as well as entrepreneurial behavior. It also covers areas such as management of technology (MOT), industry-academia collaboration management, technology transfer, and intellectual property management. One study uses cases from Japan to examine how technology transfer professionals, who are responsible for commercializing university technology, behave. Megumi Takata, the professor in charge, is a Professor in the Division of Industrial Management, Faculty of Economics, and also holds a concurrent appointment at the Institute for Sustainable Hydrogen.

Takaharu Yaguchi, Professor
0 student voices
Professor Takaharu Yaguchi's lab lists numerical analysis, machine learning, mathematical modeling, and geometric mechanics as its research themes. In the researcher profile, the research fields are classified as applied mathematics and statistical mathematics. Published papers include work that uses neural networks to reproduce phenomena in accordance with physical laws such as energy conservation and dissipation.
