Satoshi Hano, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The lab works on the co-design of public spaces, starting from the perspective of social minorities. It thinks about public spaces together with people with lived experience, and carries out practical research that brings disability and inclusion into real places. The lab also looks at civil engineering heritage and everyday local landscapes, and studies the philosophy of civil engineering design.
BEYN Ariane, Lecturer
0 student voices
Led by Lecturer Ariane Beyn, the lab specializes in curation and contemporary art. The lab studies how migration and cultural exchange have intersected with contemporary art in Japan since 2000. It focuses on artists from overseas who live and work in Japan, examining their works, the backgrounds of their production, their artist networks, and their connections and collaborations with local communities. Lecturer Beyn belongs to the Future Coexistence Design Division of the Faculty of Design, Graduate School.

Masato Ito, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The lab of Associate Professor Masato Ito applies the changes in water activity and the unusual ion conduction phenomena that arise from molecular crowding effects inside cells to the development of energy devices. In particular, for secondary batteries, it aims to solve rate capability, durability, and safety, which have tended to be put aside until now, from the perspective of biomimetics (an approach that takes living systems as a model). Its method is to rethink material selection, molecular assembly, and interface control.

Junji Hyodo, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The Hyodo Lab develops ceramic materials that conduct hydrogen ions and electrons. Its goal is to realize proton-conducting ceramic fuel cells that operate in an intermediate temperature range of about 200 to 400°C. Fuel cells currently in practical use are expensive, so there is an urgent need to lower the operating temperature to an intermediate range, reduce material and maintenance costs, and make inexpensive fuel cells widely available. The lab belongs to the Energy System Design Research Center of the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research (I2CNER), Kyushu University.

Toshinori Matsushima, Professor
0 student voices
The Matsushima Lab studies solar cells, which convert solar energy into electrical energy. In particular, the lab aims to establish the science and technology for making solution-processed perovskite solar cells more efficient, more durable, and larger in area. Driving a perovskite solar cell in reverse makes it emit light, so LEDs and lasers are also important research topics. The lab belongs to the Energy Conversion Science Unit of the International Institute for Carbon-Neutral Energy Research at Kyushu University, and its graduate students belong to the Department of Automotive Science in the Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences.

Motonori Watanabe, Professor
0 student voices
The Watanabe Lab develops new organic materials and conducts research on functional organic devices. Its goal is to bring out the properties of organic materials and combine them with inorganic materials to create devices with unprecedented properties. Toward photocatalytic water splitting, the lab studies the design and synthesis of organic dyes and interactions at the surfaces and interfaces of materials. People interested in research or study, and those who would like to visit the lab, are invited to get in touch.
