The Digital Health Lab analyzes a wide range of digitized health information, aiming to solve problems in medicine and health care. The data it works with include electronic medical records, insurance claims (receipts), information from mobile apps and biosensors, images and audio, and genomic and omics data. In addition to conventional epidemiological and statistical methods, the lab uses AI analysis techniques such as machine learning. The lab welcomes students who have mastered the basics of epidemiology and biostatistics and want to take on the analysis of new types of medical big data, as well as the development and implementation of new tools.

The Biostatistics Lab conducts research to answer statistical problems that arise in medicine, biology, pharmacy, and health science research. Statistics is not just about data analysis; it is needed at every stage of research, from planning to reporting. The lab develops new statistical methods, studies how methods perform and when to use which, and conducts applied research that uses statistical methods in medical and biological studies. Faculty members of the lab also work as trial statisticians at the Tsukuba Clinical Research and Development Organization at the University of Tsukuba, where they are involved in trial design, statistical analysis, and statistical consulting.

The Cancer Nursing and Care Systems Research Group studies support that enables people diagnosed with and treated for cancer to actively manage their own health even after treatment. The support incorporates information and communication technology (ICT), and its effects are verified in terms of quality of life (QOL). The starting point was a study by the group's leader on what health means to people who have experienced cancer, which showed that the recognition that "in the end, it's up to me" holds the key to health. In the care systems area, the group studies policies and care systems that can improve conditions in clinical settings, with community healthcare, home-visit nursing, elderly care, and big data as keywords.

The International Developmental Care Lab conducts research that studies empowerment scientifically. Empowerment means giving people dreams and hope, encouraging them, and bringing forth the wonderful strength to live that people inherently have. The lab applies empowerment techniques to the field of care to achieve better care, and it advocates "empowerment care science." Using long-term cohort studies and the group interview method, which draws on the voices of the people concerned, the lab conducts research together with researchers, practitioners, and the people concerned in many countries.

The Developmental Support Nursing Lab explores nursing that supports the development of children and their families, and aims to establish developmental support nursing as a field. Its research includes empowerment of families raising children with developmental disorders or children with severe illness who receive home care, as well as the difficulties encountered in pediatric care settings, preparation and distraction for children, and transition. For graduate students, the lab recruits people who want to reflect academically on their clinical experience, and people who hope to become nursing researchers or nursing faculty members in the future. On the lab's website, it is also introduced under the name "Wakimizu Lab."

The Community Health and Public Health Nursing Lab conducts research in a wide range of fields, including public health nursing, public health, community/home-care nursing, occupational health nursing, and school health. In addition to quantitative research such as cohort studies and cross-sectional studies, the lab also handles qualitative research and mixed methods research that integrates the two. Members with different specialties deepen their research through interdisciplinary discussion from their respective perspectives. The lab belongs to the Nursing Science Degree Program (master's and doctoral) in the Degree Programs in Comprehensive Human Sciences at the University of Tsukuba.

The Gerontological Caring Lab aims to develop human caring theory for people living in a super-aged, low-birthrate society, and to create health promotion programs. Targeting people and families at every stage of health, the lab studies the effects of caring provided by health, medical, and welfare professionals, as well as life support systems for preventing the need for long-term care. Members come from a variety of professions. The lab holds a lab seminar every Thursday at 6:00 p.m., where members choose a topic and discuss it. The page listing graduate students' research themes includes topics such as home care support for people with intractable diseases, dementia prevention, and disaster support.

Through research that integrates medicine, science, and engineering, the Nursing Science and Engineering and Women's Health Nursing Lab aims to make nursing visible and to verify evidence of its effectiveness and safety. Focusing on needs from clinical practice, such as "If only we had a tool like this, we could provide better care," the lab develops new technologies and creates new devices. In particular, the lab works on research that contributes to supporting the health of women and children. Because the lab's research leader is involved in nursing education and midwifery education, many members hold midwife qualifications, chose the midwifery course in graduate school, or are undergraduates who hope to become midwives in the future.

The Chronic Illness Care Coordination Nursing group studies nursing that supports people with illnesses they will live with for a long time, and their families. There are many kinds of target diseases, and as society ages, the period of living with illness is also becoming longer. Because health conditions have many stages, psychological and social support, and ethical consideration that respects the wishes of both patients and their families, are also essential. Working in multidisciplinary teams that include not only doctors and nurses, the group considers methods of support that also take collaboration with the community into account.

The Psychiatric Nursing Lab (Sugaya Lab) specializes in psychiatric nursing within the Global Health Nursing Lab. In addition to psychiatric nursing, the lab works on a variety of topics, including child and adolescent psychiatric nursing, nursing education, nursing ethics, forest therapy, and forest-based health care. There are opportunities for discussion with alumni and graduates, clinical nurses and physicians, psychiatric social workers, certified public psychologists, and people with lived experience who live in the community. The lab also takes part in World Mental Health Day in TSUKUBA and works together with people with lived experience on peer support activities.
