The Intelligent Sensing Lab (ISLab) aims to realize "autonomous intelligence" and studies fundamental technologies such as computer vision, computational photography, machine learning, pattern recognition, and natural language processing, along with their applications. The lab defines autonomous intelligence as intelligence equipped with the human functions of perception, thinking, and action. The lab grew out of the Intelligent Information Infrastructure Division of the D3 Center at Osaka University. It is a cooperating lab of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology and conducts joint research with organizations inside and outside the university. The lab supports student-led research projects and helps students acquire knowledge and skills in related fields.

The Intelligent Data Science Lab (Sakurai-Matsubara Lab) researches technologies that use large-scale data to analyze the temporal evolution of natural and social phenomena in real time and optimize social activities. The lab develops technologies that find important patterns in large-scale time-series data obtained from sources such as IoT devices and predict future events. The lab conducts joint research with many companies and also focuses on transferring the technologies it develops to industry. The lab belongs to the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (SANKEN) at the University of Osaka, and accepts students as a cooperating chair of the Graduate School of Information Science and Technology.

The Advanced Thin-Film Functional Properties Lab (Uemura Lab) conducts both basic and applied research to bring advanced flexible electronics and wearable sensors into practical use in society. For thin, lightweight, and flexible electronic devices, the lab works on methods to control their properties using organic semiconductor technology, and on applying them to sensors. Organic semiconductor technology makes it possible to produce electronic devices through coating and printing processes with a low environmental impact, and it is expected to contribute to a sustainable society. To make use of sensor data, the lab also collaborates with information science and pursues research and development that leads to solutions for social issues.

Makoto Negoro, Professor

The Quantum Information Systems Lab (Negoro Group) studies quantum information and magnetic resonance (NMR, ESR, MRI). In quantum information, the lab develops and operates microwave devices that control superconducting qubits, as well as a cloud service for superconducting quantum computers. In magnetic resonance, the lab studies techniques that use light to align the orientation of nuclear spins in order to increase the sensitivity of NMR and MRI. The Negoro Group is based at the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology (QIQB) at Osaka University, and its research page states that, with a Visiting Associate Professor appointment at the Graduate School of Engineering Science, the group collaborates closely with the Fujii Lab.
