The lab provides education mainly for students from non-medical undergraduate backgrounds who plan to work in drug discovery at pharmaceutical companies or universities. Students learn the foundations of drug discovery in four layers: basic medical knowledge and experimental skills; the medical literacy needed for cutting-edge drug discovery; exercises covering everything from disease pathology to drug development; and topics ranging from iPS cell-based drug discovery to biobanks, clinical trials, intellectual property, regulatory affairs, and business models. Over the five years of the master's and doctoral programs in Medical Science, students join the lab faculty's drug discovery research and the university's industry-academia collaboration projects, build their own area of expertise, and earn their degree.

Clinical statistics is a field that provides methodology for how to collect and analyze data (study design and data analysis) in clinical research involving human subjects. Statistics is indispensable for rigorous scientific evaluation of clinical data, which carry a great deal of uncertainty, and specialists well versed in clinical statistics (clinical statisticians) are needed. The Clinical Statistician Training Course run by the lab is a two-year professional degree program in the Department of Public Health, and it warmly welcomes anyone interested in data science and statistics for clinical research, regardless of background, such as medicine. In the Department of Public Health, it is listed under the field of Medical Data Science.

The lab introduces the latest findings in aging medicine and trains the next generation of researchers in the field of health and aging medicine. The lab teaches research methods for systematically investigating aging over time, from the molecular level to the whole organism, and also teaches the fundamentals of imaging and mathematical analysis models and the development of new technologies and instruments. The lab places importance on sharpening the ability to "discover problems" and on tackling unique research that others do not pursue, with curiosity and a spirit of inquiry.

The lab is an endowed division within the Department of Developmental Pediatrics. It aims to protect and further develop Japan's perinatal medicine, which boasts world-leading clinical outcomes. While pursuing the intellectual appeal of neonatology as an academic discipline, the lab trains neonatologists through an advanced specialist training program.

The lab aims to elucidate how multiple system atrophy (MSA), a neurodegenerative disease, develops, and to develop treatments for it. Multiple system atrophy is among the most intractable of intractable diseases, causing a variety of neurological symptoms such as movement disorders and autonomic dysfunction. The mechanisms of onset are not yet sufficiently understood, and no fundamental cure has been established.

The Gastrointestinal Tumor Control and Organ Regeneration Surgery Lab is an endowed department within the Department of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic and Transplant Surgery. The lab conducts practical research to improve the outcomes of surgical treatment for malignant tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, biliary tract, and pancreas. The lab also studies organ regeneration using regenerative medicine methods, addressing organ defects and organ failure caused by cancer treatment. The lab also aims to build a system that widely shares its research results and surgical techniques with medical students and young physicians, and that trains the surgeons of the future.

The Advanced Therapeutics for Head and Neck Tumors Lab is an endowed department within the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery. Tumors in the head and neck arise in many sites, including the nose, mouth, throat, esophagus, salivary glands, and thyroid, and every form of treatment places a burden on the body and can lower quality of life. The lab aims to accumulate new findings and apply them in the clinic, delivering more effective and less burdensome treatment to patients.

The Regulatory Science for Medical Device Development Lab studies "regulatory science," which, when research and development results are put to practical use, predicts, evaluates, and judges quality, efficacy, and safety appropriately and quickly on the basis of scientific knowledge. Building on regulatory science, the lab aims to contribute to the development of new drugs and medical devices, to create an environment where people can learn about regulation, and to train specialists in this field. Working with affiliated hospitals that have extensive clinical experience, the lab advances the real-world implementation of developed products based on regulatory science.

The Social Impact Evaluation Lab is an endowed lab established in 2024 within the social epidemiology department. By promoting collaboration among industry, government, academia, and civil society, the lab aims to generate evidence that helps solve social problems. In particular, it aims to establish the academic foundation for social impact evaluation in health and medicine and to contribute to building a sustainable and fair society.

Drawing on a deep understanding of neuroscience and rigorous scientific methods, the Educational Neuroscience Lab uses state-of-the-art brain measurement and analysis technologies to investigate the brain mechanisms that underlie education and learning. Through designing effective learning methods and developing educational approaches that increase motivation to learn, the lab aims to return its findings broadly to society. Its mission also includes training specialists who combine knowledge of anatomy and physiology with advanced brain measurement skills, and who can investigate the mechanisms of learning and education with neuroscience at the core.
