The Animal Products Chemistry Lab studies how skeletal muscle grows and how it regenerates after damage, focusing on muscle stem cells (satellite cells). Associate Professor Suzuki conducts basic research in muscle cell biology on skeletal muscle stem cells, and aims to apply the findings to meat science and to health and sports science. Professor Tatsumi has investigated how hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) activates muscle stem cells. The lab's website lists muscle hypertrophy, regeneration, and atrophy mechanisms, regulation of muscle fiber type, and adding value to meat as research topics.

The Metabolism and Behavior Regulation Lab studies the mechanisms behind the behavioral and metabolic rhythms that animals show in step with daily and seasonal environmental cycles. The lab investigates the mechanisms of winter depression (seasonal affective disorder), chrononutrition, glaucoma, and seasonal rhythms of hormone secretion, with a view to contributing to livestock farming and medicine. The lab has an experimental group and a mathematical group, which work together to combine experiments and theory. It belongs to the Animal Science Field of the Animal Production Science Course.

The Livestock Production Ecology Lab conducts research on ruminant livestock at the farm on Ito Campus and at the Highland Agricultural Experiment and Training Station in Oita Prefecture. At Ito Campus, the lab works with dairy cattle and goats and analyzes the relationship between the microbiota and productivity. At the Highland Agricultural Experiment and Training Station, located in Aso-Kuju National Park, the lab investigates the mechanisms that regulate the constitution of cattle and how to manage it, in order to solve problems in beef production. It uses methods from molecular biology, morphology, physiology, and livestock management.

The Animal Life Science Lab (Nakamura Lab) conducts research using animal cells and chicken embryos, with the aim of solving the world's food problems. Focusing on chicken meat, the lab works on two areas: developing “cultured meat” and increasing the value of internal-organ parts (smooth muscle). By studying how chicken muscle forms, the lab aims to open up new possibilities for meat. Students from the School of Interdisciplinary Science and Innovation study in the lab through their Degree Project.

The Aquatic Molecular Developmental Biology Lab uses fish such as medaka to study how differences in external morphology and behavior between males and females are created and have evolved. The lab focuses on secondary sexual characteristics that are typical of males, and much of the mechanism of their evolution is still unknown. Using methods from genetic engineering and developmental biology, the lab studies the evolution of the androgen receptor through the genome duplication that occurred specifically in teleosts, and the evolutionary and developmental mechanisms of the secondary sexual traits that led to the diversity of reproductive modes. The model fish include medaka, mosquitofish, and swordtails.

The Aquatic Developmental Toxicology Lab studies the mechanisms of diseases related to development, as well as osmoregulation in cells and fish. Its research focuses on disease mechanisms, the function of deubiquitinating enzymes, osmoregulation, and developmental toxicity. The lab works with cultured cells and small fish such as zebrafish and medaka. Combining a variety of molecular biology techniques with omics technologies, the lab tackles questions in biology.

The Mathematical Modeling Lab studies real-world phenomena using mathematical and statistical models. The lab belongs to the Graduate School of Bioresource and Bioenvironmental Sciences at Kyushu University. Its listed research themes include fish schools, forest ecosystems, fur patterns of animals, and classification of English accents using AI.

The Plant Metabolic Regulation Lab studies the mechanisms by which conifers withstand environmental stress, from the perspective of photosynthetic regulation. Conifers dominate the harsh-climate regions of the mid- to high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere, and they have various mechanisms for adapting to cold, drought, and other stresses. Regulation of photosynthesis is especially important: without it, photosynthesis suffers light-induced damage under environmental stress. Based on information obtained from photosynthesis research, the lab is trying to create improved trees.

The Agricultural Economics Lab studies economic problems and policy issues arising from the characteristics of agriculture and imperfections in market mechanisms, from the perspective of international industrial organization. The lab holds that the main causes of economic disparities in agriculture are imperfect competition, in which either sellers or buyers gain excessive price-bargaining power, and excessive market intervention by governments at home and abroad. Holding that it is important to realize fair, free competition by appropriately combining market functions and policy, the lab investigates the causes and solutions using quantitative economic analysis tools.

The Agricultural Management Lab studies the problems facing modern farm management and ways to address them from the perspective of the theory of the structure of productive forces. The lab examines planning, management, and extension for the sustainable development of farm businesses, while they produce safe and secure food and conserve the regional environment. The lab includes international students, mainly from Asia, as well as students from Japan, and it also studies agricultural problems overseas from the perspective of farm management. The lab holds a lab seminar every week, where members report on their research and extracurricular activities and exchange opinions.
