The lab studies the relationship between periodontal disease and systemic conditions, including diabetes, in terms of molecular mechanisms. Using mice, the lab examines how obesity and diabetes affect periodontitis and how periodontitis affects the whole body. The lab also studies how amelogenin, which is used as a material for regenerating periodontal tissue, acts on the immune system. The lab belongs to the Department of Oral Rehabilitation at the Faculty of Dental Science, Kyushu University, and some of its faculty members also provide clinical care at the Periodontology Clinic of Kyushu University Hospital.

The lab works in clinical practice, education, and research to maintain and restore oral function by using prostheses that replace lost teeth and tooth structure. Prostheses include crowns, bridges, dentures, and implants, and they are used to restore patients' oral functions such as chewing, speaking, and improving appearance. Its research covers maintaining the health of tissue around implants, the relationship between prostheses and oral function, regenerative medicine, and biomaterials. The lab is one of the prosthodontics laboratories that have existed since the founding of the Faculty of Dental Science at Kyushu University, and since July 2024 it has carried out clinical care, education, and research under a new structure.

The Implant and Denture Prosthodontics Lab conducts research and clinical work on prosthodontics, which replaces missing or lost teeth and jawbone with dentures, implants, and other devices. At the Denture Prosthodontics clinic of Kyushu University Hospital, the lab restores occlusion and masticatory function, improves appearance, and treats temporomandibular disorders. Its research covers peri-implant soft tissue, bone graft materials, treatments for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, and digital dentistry using intraoral scanners. On the lab's website, it is also introduced under the name "Department of Implant and Denture Prosthodontics."

The Oral Pathology Lab carries out pathological diagnosis, education, and research as one integrated effort. The lab handles pathological diagnosis for the dental division of Kyushu University Hospital, and much of its research is inspired by observations and questions that arise in daily diagnosis. Its main research theme is elucidating the molecular and cellular mechanisms shared by tissue development and tumor formation. The lab works across a wide range, from basic research to translational research, and aims to return its research results to patient care.

The Oral Imaging Science Lab conducts research on oral cancer, lymph nodes, salivary glands, the temporomandibular joint, jawbone lesions, facial morphology, and radiological science and engineering. At the Oral Diagnostic Imaging Department of Kyushu University Hospital, the lab also carries out clinical research using patients' clinical information. Its research plans include titles on image evaluation using CT, MRI, ultrasound, and artificial intelligence (AI). On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "Department of Oral Imaging Science."

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Lab is part of the Faculty of Dental Science at Kyushu University, and also provides clinical care as the Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery department of Kyushu University Hospital. Its main clinical areas are maxillofacial shape abnormalities such as jaw deformities and cleft lip and palate, temporomandibular joint diseases, and reconstruction using implants and regenerative techniques. Its research examines salivary gland diseases such as Sjögren's syndrome and IgG4-related disease, osteomyelitis of the jaw, and metastasis of oral cancer. Aiming to be a department where young members enjoy their work and find it rewarding, the lab also works to train people who will support the next generation of dental care.

The Maxillofacial Tumor Control Lab carries out clinical care, research, and education on benign and malignant tumors and oral mucosal diseases that arise in the oral cavity, jaws, and face. Working with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Lab (Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery), it also treats many cases of jaw deformities, cleft lip and palate, maxillofacial trauma, and temporomandibular joint disorders. Patients with intractable oral diseases come not only from Fukuoka Prefecture but from all over Kyushu. The lab puts effort into educating young oral surgeons, believing that the lab grows as its people grow.

The Dental Anesthesiology Lab covers anesthesia and systemic management for oral surgery and for dental procedures in children and people with disabilities, as well as emergency resuscitation during dental treatment. At Kyushu University Hospital, it works as the dental anesthesiology department, managing anesthesia for surgery, mainly resection of oral tumors and plastic surgery for cleft lip, jaw, and palate. Alongside clinical work and research, the lab's policy is to train dentists who can manage patients' systemic condition. The lab gives lectures on dental anesthesiology in the undergraduate program and supervises clinical research and other work in the graduate program.

The lab aims to contribute to the advancement of dentistry for older adults and people with underlying medical conditions. Its goal is to support healthy life expectancy through oral health in a super-aged society. Its research covers the relationship between oral health and overall health, and systems for oral management in collaboration with multiple healthcare professions. As a clinical department of Kyushu University Hospital, the lab also engages in undergraduate education, clinical research, and a wide range of clinical activities at the hospital.

The lab aims to enhance interprofessional healthcare in which hospitals, clinics, and local residents work together. It aims to train oral healthcare professionals who are active during disasters as well, and who are trusted by people who say, “If anything happens, we can just ask them, and we'll feel safe.” The lab holds that, in addition to medicine and dentistry, these professionals need knowledge of pharmacy, nursing, nutrition, and social welfare, and must hone the skills to communicate closely with people in each field. A program developed jointly with Kumamoto University Hospital, aimed at training professionals from multiple fields for team medical care in disasters, has been selected by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
