Tran Lam Anh Duong, Assistant Professor
0 student voices
Chang Lab's research areas are international economics, economic growth, and income distribution. Its published papers cover international trade and wage and income inequality, technology levels and global value chains, and the spillover effects of foreign direct investment. Interviews are offered as lab visits for undergraduate students in the program who wish to be assigned to a lab for their graduation research.

Yuki Takahashi, Assistant Professor
0 student voices
Takahashi Lab is interested in how people change what they say and how they behave depending on the institutions they are placed in and the people they face. Using real service settings such as online reviews, mystery shopping, and feedback to employees, the lab has studied how people respond. Its main methods are experiments with large language model (LLM) agents, economic experiments, data analysis, and simulation.

Nobuyuki Harada, Associate Professor
0 student voices
Harada Lab analyzes the dynamics of and policy on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. It also conducts empirical analysis of the Japanese economy and industry. One of its areas of expertise is econometrics. This is the lab of Associate Professor Nobuyuki Harada of the Division of Policy and Planning Sciences, Institute of Systems and Information Engineering, University of Tsukuba.

Hiromi Misaki, Assistant Professor
0 student voices
The lab of Assistant Professor Hiromi Misaki, who specializes in statistics, econometrics, and financial econometrics, analyzes financial data such as asset prices using statistical methods. In particular, it works on methods for estimating the variance and covariance of asset prices from high-frequency data, meaning large volumes of observations recorded at short intervals. Research keywords include financial risk, time series analysis, and state space models.

Sumika Arima, Lecturer
0 student voices
The Arima Lab studies production systems engineering, production quality management, and operations management based on the analysis of IoT and big data. Its research centers on practical applications of data analysis and mathematical optimization, and is applied across a wide range of areas, including manufacturing and services. The lab puts particular effort into the Social Engineering Workshop, in which mixed teams of undergraduate and graduate students work to solve real-world problems from companies. Some students continue the work as research. In the introductory lab seminar, students are assigned roles and give presentations. From June onward, they deepen their understanding by taking turns presenting books and prior studies related to their research themes.

Mika Sato-Ilic, Professor
0 student voices
The Sato-Ilic Lab studies methods for analyzing multidimensional data from the perspectives of statistical science and soft computing. Building on data mining and multidimensional data analysis, it works on artificial intelligence-based analysis of high-dimensional, small-sample data and its societal applications. It develops methods for mixed data and high-dimensional, small-sample data, such as principal component analysis based on fuzzy clustering.

Yukihiko Okada, Professor
0 student voices
SEAM Lab specializes in accounting information science, service engineering, and social data science. Its research philosophy is to open up a new knowledge frontier: Service Engineering, Accounting, and Marketing (SEAM). Its educational philosophy is "nurturing next-generation service innovators," and it aims to train STEM-trained service innovators who can talk about money. In recent years, its papers have covered machine learning on accounting and management data, emotion estimation from biosignals, and the effects of voice in customer service in virtual space.

Yuta Kurose, Assistant Professor
0 student voices
Kurose Lab conducts research analyzing economic and financial time series data using methods from statistics and econometrics. Using Bayesian statistics, it analyzes data within the framework of state space models, including multivariate, high-dimensional data in which multiple series are handled simultaneously. The lab also studies methods for generating random numbers from specific probability distributions and has published its results in papers.

Yuki Sato, Project Assistant Professor
0 student voices
Sato Lab specializes in finance, market microstructure, and econophysics. It is listed as Sato Lab in the faculty information of the College of Policy and Planning Sciences. The University of Tsukuba's researcher directory lists courses taught by Project Assistant Professor Yuki Sato, including master's special research in social engineering.

Maiko Shigeno, Professor
0 student voices
The Shigeno Lab's research fields are combinatorial optimization, network planning, algorithm design, and service science. The lab works on solving mathematically the scheduling problems that arise in service settings, such as cooking procedures in restaurants and the creation of work shift schedules. Research conducted with the cooperation of family restaurants, taxi companies, and bus operators is also introduced on the lab's website. Bachelor's and master's theses also cover topics such as optical communication networks, smartphone app usage data, and sales forecasting.
