Masafumi Tamura, Professor
0 student voices
The Tamura Lab studies the electrical and magnetic properties of materials made of organic molecules. Some organic materials show remarkable physical properties, such as superconductivity and ferromagnetism. Among the countless organic molecules, many functions remain unknown. The lab aims to use new molecules to discover and explain unknown physical phenomena. Covering a wide range from condensed matter physics to synthetic chemistry, the lab pursues its research without being bound by disciplinary boundaries.
Hiroshi Yaguchi, Professor
0 student voices
The Yaguchi Lab lists solid-state physics, low-temperature physics, and superconductivity as its research fields. Its news items mention research that measured the upper critical field of iron-based superconductors using pulsed high magnetic fields, research that investigated quantum oscillations in materials such as YbB12, and experiments using ultrasound. Graduate students work on synthesizing FeSe-based materials and Fe(Te, S).

Masaki Ishitsuka, Professor
0 student voices
The Ishitsuka Lab conducts experimental particle physics, studying elementary particles and the universe through neutrino observation. Its research topics include neutrino oscillation and the search for proton decay. Assistant Professor Hideyoshi Ozaki is also involved in the search for neutrinoless double beta decay and in detector development for the Hyper-Kamiokande experiment. The lab's website has links to the Super-Kamiokande, T2K, and Hyper-Kamiokande experiments.

Yoshiyuki Fukumoto, Professor
0 student voices
The Fukumoto Lab theoretically studies quantum many-body systems of electrons on a lattice. Electrons have two degrees of freedom, charge and spin, and a system in which the charge degree of freedom is frozen is called a spin system. Spin systems provide fundamental models of magnetic materials. Electron systems that have both degrees of freedom call for deep understanding because of their relevance to high-temperature superconductivity and related phenomena. The lab uses these systems as its main subjects to elucidate and explore physical properties.

Takuma Akimoto, Professor
0 student voices
The Akimoto Lab studies universal (statistical) laws underlying complex phenomena, focusing on nonequilibrium statistical physics, nonlinear science, and theoretical biophysics. In particular, it focuses on universal laws of long-time averages in anomalous transport and nonstationary phenomena (infinite ergodic theory), and pursues this research through probability theory and numerical simulation. The lab encourages students to take the lead in everything from designing research and setting problems to building theory. The lab's website introduces it under the name "Nonequilibrium and Nonlinear Physics Lab."

Kaname Kanai
0 student voices
The Kanai Lab conducts materials science research based on condensed matter physics. Centering on new optoelectronic functional materials, it aims to create new materials that solve environmental and energy problems. Students interested in the lab can contact a faculty member using the contact information on the website.

Hideyuki Suzuki, Professor
0 student voices
The Suzuki Lab is a group that studies astrophysics from a theoretical standpoint, with a particular interest in supernova physics. The lab's website lists as its outputs a database of supernova neutrinos, model spectra of the supernova relic neutrino background, and equations of state of neutron star matter. Its projects include theoretical studies of supernova neutrinos linked to nuclear physics and the chemical evolution of the universe. Another is the study of explosive astrophysical phenomena and nucleosynthesis based on quark dynamics and the structure of atomic nuclei.

Tomohiro Abe, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The Abe Lab pursues theoretical research aimed at elucidating "physics beyond the Standard Model of particle physics." Elementary particles are the particles you arrive at when you break matter down piece by piece, and that cannot be broken down any further. Currently, the lab's research centers on dark matter and Higgs physics. The lab's website also introduces it under the name "Elementary Particle Theory Lab."

Kaori Ito, Professor
0 student voices
The Ito Lab studies how urban and regional space should be shaped, in the fields of urban planning and architectural planning. Professor Kaori Ito's research keywords are urban design, urban analytics, and urban planning. Lecturer Seiya Takayanagi's research keywords include regional planning, landscape planning, community development (machizukuri), and GIS.

Manabu Kanematsu, Professor
0 student voices
The Kanematsu Lab conducts research centered on building materials science and concrete engineering, from the perspectives of durability, maintenance and preservation, and reduction of environmental impact. The lab's research introduction page lists the challenges it works on, including durability design of reinforced concrete structures, methods for maintaining and preserving buildings, technologies using neutrons, and low-environmental-impact material technologies. Lab visits are accepted at any time for third-year students in the Department of Architecture.
