Satoshi Tsuneda, Professor
0 student voices
The Tsuneda Lab works to uncover how bacteria live and develops technologies to draw out their functions. It integrates "single-cell engineering," which isolates and examines individual cells, with "multicellular engineering," which examines the relationships among cells within populations and tissues. The subjects are microbial cells and animal cells, and the lab also studies the interactions between the two. Its work ranges widely from developing methods to elucidating molecular mechanisms and developing applied technologies, aiming to contribute to medicine, health, food, and the environment.

Kei Yura, Professor
0 student voices
The Yura Lab studies computational methods for analyzing biomolecular data measured with cutting-edge technologies, as well as their applications. Its targets include predicting the structure and function of proteins encoded in genomes, and estimating the mechanisms by which genetic variants lead to disease. When existing methods cannot solve a problem, the lab develops new methods of its own. The lab draws on all of its knowledge of science and engineering, including biology, physics, and information science.

Chihiro Takahashi, Associate Professor

Building on pharmacology, the lab studies how substances inside the body act on nerves, inflammation, and metabolism. The lab conducts parallel studies on the regulation of neuroinflammation by the body's own endocannabinoid system and the regulation of metabolism by components of edible crickets. Its research spans multiple fields, including neuroscience, immunology, nutrition science, and food chemistry. It also aims to compensate, with scientific backing, for things that are not easily accepted by society.

From the standpoint of cell biology, the lab studies the environment formed by cancer cells and the cells surrounding them (the tumor microenvironment). It focuses on how cells communicate with one another through extracellular vesicles such as exosomes. Immune cells that work near tumors (tumor-associated macrophages) and models that mimic body tissues are also key research topics.
