A biology lab built around glowing proteins and microscopy.

The Photonic Biotechnology Lab conducts research on fluorescent proteins, bioluminescent proteins, and microscopy. The lab's website says it does research that is only possible by integrating optics, engineering, physics, chemistry, cell biology, developmental biology, botany, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sciences. The news section lists papers on a fluorescent sensor that visualizes contact between cells and on photoswitchable fluorescent proteins. The lab's website presents it as the "Nagai Lab" and states that it accepts graduate students from the Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences and the Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and also recruits widely from other universities.
