The Joint Research Chair of Next-Generation Endoscopic Therapeutics (Project ENGINE) develops new medical devices jointly with companies, starting from problems that physicians identify in clinical practice. Working with company subgroups in an end-to-end manner, from the basic and preclinical stages through to commercialization, the lab aims for early implementation in society. Data obtained during development are shared between the university and the participating companies. The university publishes them academically, and the companies use them to develop and improve devices. The lab also accepts company personnel engaged in medical device research and development, and trains development personnel using clinical training and animal experiment facilities.

The Collaborative Research Institute for Regeneration-Inducing Medicine was jointly established by The University of Osaka and StemRIM Inc. and specializes in developing regeneration-inducing drugs. It defines the body's own ability to heal injuries and diseases as "regeneration induction," and aims to help patients by developing drugs that can harness this ability at will. Development is under way targeting epidermolysis bullosa, acute cerebral infarction, chronic liver disease, knee osteoarthritis, and other conditions. The institute actively welcomes young researchers who will lead the development of next-generation regeneration-inducing drugs.
