The Nanoelectronics Lab makes full use of nanotechnology to evaluate the structures and physical properties of materials, and aims to create next-generation nanoelectronic devices. Based on the results of these evaluations, the lab's goal is to produce new devices with high functionality. The lab website lists "evaluation of semiconductor crystals, defects, and devices" and "memristor devices and materials development" as research themes. The lab website introduces the lab under the name "Sakai Lab."

The Hamaya Lab aims to develop next-generation low-power electronics using semiconductor spintronics, multiferroic, and superconducting devices. Behind this is the projection that the power consumption of large-scale data centers will grow to about 2,500 times the current level by 2050. The lab aims to pioneer on-chip integrated semiconductor technology that places a low-power logic unit and non-volatile memory on a silicon substrate. The lab website introduces the lab under the name "Hamaya Lab."

The Nakamura Lab develops new semiconductor materials and devices to solve problems facing the energy sector and semiconductor devices. Aiming to generate electricity from waste heat and reuse the energy, the lab performs thermal management using materials with nanoscale structures. Drawing on quantum mechanics, solid-state physics, and heat and carrier transport, the lab designs and fabricates nanomaterials made of ubiquitous elements.

The Quantum Computing Lab conducts research at the interface of information and physics, centered on quantum computers, next-generation computers that compute using the principles of quantum mechanics. The lab studies quantum error correction, which counters the noise that large-scale quantum computers must overcome, and applications of small- and medium-scale NISQ devices to quantum chemistry calculations and quantum machine learning. The lab's research is interdisciplinary, drawing on knowledge from a wide range of fields such as fundamental physics, computer science, programming, and machine learning. Fourth-year undergraduates assigned to the lab first build foundational knowledge by taking turns presenting a quantum information textbook in English in a reading group, and then choose their research topics.

The Lightwave and Microwave Lab uses metamaterials to study technologies that make use of unusual properties of electromagnetic waves. The subtitle of the lab's website is "The Science of Invisibility Cloaks and Artificial Metamaterials," and the lab works on terahertz-wave technologies that support 6G, invisibility cloak technologies, and more. Other research includes controlling the paths of light by coordinate transformation, and a special electromagnetic field in which the electric and magnetic fields are parallel. The lab's website introduces it under the name "Sanada Laboratory."

The Digital Photonics Lab studies concepts and technologies that bridge fundamental optics and mathematical science. By truly fusing optical technology with digital technology, the lab aims to pursue the ultimate performance limits of optical communications. It also sets the goal of opening up optical measurement to the general public. The graduate program's page lists optical fiber communications, digital signal processing, real-time circuit implementation, and nonlinear inference problems as research keywords.

The Medical Molecular Photonics Lab studies photonics, pursuing “visualization” through the science of light. The lab builds its own lasers and optical frequency comb light sources and explores new interactions between light and matter. It also conducts research that applies these results to other fields, mainly medicine and biology. The lab's motto is “Seeing is believing.”

The Ion Trap Quantum Metrology Lab researches and develops on-chip ion traps that combine atomic physics with microfabrication technology. Building on ion trap and laser cooling technologies that individually manipulate atoms at the level of single atoms, the lab advances its research in collaboration with research institutions in Japan and abroad that have microfabrication expertise. The lab pursues a wide range of research activities, including participation in a national project to pioneer new quantum information and quantum metrology technologies, and the establishment of an international joint lab between Osaka University and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) of Germany. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name “Utako Tanaka Group.”
