The Advanced Electronics Lab studies fields that merge electronics and science, such as atomic and molecular electronics and bioelectronics. By creating and measuring extreme environments, the lab aims to deepen materials science and to create new materials, devices, and systems. Its research themes include observing atoms and molecules on solid surfaces, visualizing drug reactions in living organisms, and research approaching the essence of electromagnetic noise. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name “Abe Lab” as a research division of the affiliated Center for Extreme Science.

The Extreme Electronics Lab studies vacuum nanoelectronics, which investigates electron emission, and nanoscale measurement using magnetic force microscopy. The lab works on the electron emission properties of graphene and high-temperature superconductors, and on developing compact X-ray and neutron sources that use pyroelectric crystals irradiated with laser light. It also works on measuring the resistance of narrow regions of semiconductors using magnetic force microscopy. On the lab's website, it is introduced under the name "Wakaya Group," as a lab of the Center for Extreme Science, affiliated with the Graduate School of Engineering Science.
