The lab examines all the genes of the pathogenic fungus Candida to search for new drug targets.

The Candida Phenome Project Lab uses the pathogenic fungus Candida glabrata to study how infection occurs and to search for new drug targets. Candida glabrata is the pathogenic fungus most often found in patients after Candida albicans. Because it has few genes and its genome information is well established, it is the pathogenic fungus whose genes are easiest to study, and the lab uses it as a model organism. The lab has built a library of recombinant strains covering every gene and shares it with researchers in Japan and abroad.
