Through its two teams, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, the lab carries out education and research on mental health. Its work covers both prevention and support, from nationwide surveys to developing practical guidelines and scales for use in the field.
*Illustrative imageTrauma-Informed Care
The lab investigates how mental health, medical, and welfare facilities respond to trauma, and is developing guidelines based on its findings. It also works to spread the idea of trauma-informed care, which starts from the assumption that anyone may have been affected by painful experiences.
*Illustrative imageNationwide Survey on Stress and Health
Following the previous two rounds, the lab is conducting a nationwide survey on the mental health and stress of people in Japan. It aims to clarify how the proportion of people with mental health problems and their status of seeking medical care have changed over the past 10 years, and to use the results to inform national policy.
*Illustrative imageOnline Follow-up Survey of Workers
Together with the Department of Digital Mental Health, the lab has been conducting an online follow-up survey of workers across Japan since 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic began. It examines how countermeasures have spread in workplaces and what factors change workers' mental health.
*Illustrative imageMental Health of Disaster Dispatch Teams
In collaboration with the DMAT (Disaster Medical Assistance Team) Secretariat and the DPAT (Disaster Psychiatric Assistance Team) Secretariat, the lab surveys team members. It examines the factors that affect mental health problems, and aims to return the results to each individual so that they lead to stress care.
