The Bioelectrochemistry Lab studies, from an electrochemical perspective, how oxidoreductases, the enzymes responsible for the flow of electrons and ions in living organisms, work. The lab develops biofuel cells that use enzymes to generate electricity from sugars and other substances, as well as biosensors. As electrodes, the lab uses materials such as porous carbon with pores controlled at the nanometer scale, and also studies how to make enzymes work well on the electrode surface. The lab is introduced on its website under the name "Tsujimura Lab," and it also carries out joint research with companies, universities, and research institutions in Japan and abroad.

The Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Theory Lab studies how atoms and molecules move and how they interact with electromagnetic fields, aiming to understand and control them through large-scale numerical computation. In particular, the lab solves the time-dependent Schrödinger equation using direct time-propagation methods. The lab aims to elucidate nonlinear processes of atoms and molecules in intense laser fields, and the formation of exotic atoms in collisions such as those between antiprotons and atoms. The lab also explores ways to control physical processes with external fields such as oscillating magnetic fields.

The DNA Nanosystem Lab studies systems that use DNA, the blueprint of life, as molecular-scale components and combine it with nanotechnology. It works on topics such as DNA nanodevices, which are built on precisely structured nano-interfaces and amplify and output a signal in response to specific biomolecules. The lab also works on DNA nanomachines that walk across the surface of nanoparticles using biomolecules as fuel, and on DNA computing, which treats DNA base sequences as information. Such systems are considered useful for point-of-care testing (POCT), which allows disease-related biological substances to be examined simply and on the spot from a tiny amount of sample.

The Synthetic Metals Lab studies conjugated polymers. It develops synthesis methods for polymers, and synthesizes, measures, and analyzes polymers with new functions. The lab's keywords include asymmetric electrolytic polymerization in liquid crystals, asymmetric polymerization in liquid crystal solvents, and electrolytic polymerization in liquid crystals under a magnetic field. On the lab's website, it is presented under the name "Goto Lab (Quantum Polymer Science Lab)."

The Biophysics and Chemical Physics Lab studies phenomena in biological, chemical, and solid-state systems through the theories of physics. Subjects listed include electron transfer reactions, photosynthesis, enzyme reactions, chemical reactions, light absorption, and luminescence. The researcher directory lists biophysical theory and the theory of chemical reactions as current research topics. The description on the lab's website dates from around 2001.

The Terahertz Spectroscopy Lab uses terahertz spectroscopy to study the properties of glass and other materials with disordered structures. One subject is the boson peak, an excitation that appears universally in glasses and is known as one of the unsolved problems in glass physics. The lab's research is centered on a terahertz time-domain spectrometer and is combined with large-scale molecular dynamics simulations. Besides glass, the lab also studies other materials with disordered structures, such as proteins.
