Eijiroh Nishi, Professor
0 student voices
In this lab, Professor Eijiroh Nishi conducts research to understand the true state of living organisms and the natural environment. The lab collects basic data that informs nature conservation and environmental education, and aims to do research that lets people picture the real state of the natural environment and biodiversity. In the researcher directory, the research keywords include polychaetes (ragworms), tidal flat biology, and systematic taxonomy. In the Science specialization of the Faculty of Education, students are assigned to a lab in their second year, and a senior thesis presentation is held in the fourth year.
Shungo Kawagata, Professor
0 student voices
In this lab, Professor Shungo Kawagata studies strata and the fossils of protists preserved in them. Through the study of fossils, the lab reconstructs past marine and depositional environments, and clarifies phylogeny, evolution, and extinction. In the researcher directory, the research keywords are marine micropaleontology and paleoceanography, and the listed research background includes the classification of Cenozoic benthic foraminifera and late Cenozoic paleoceanographic environmental change. In the Science specialization of the Faculty of Education, students are assigned to a lab in their second year, and a senior thesis presentation is held in the fourth year.
Takanori Ibaraki, Professor
0 student voices
In this lab, Professor Ibaraki studies fixed point problems for nonlinear mappings in Hilbert spaces and Banach spaces. Research on fixed point problems rests on two pillars, existence and approximation methods, and the nonexpansiveness of the mapping is a key factor. The lab proposes approximation methods that construct a sequence of points step by step toward a solution, and has obtained theorems showing that the sequence converges to the solution. According to the researcher directory, in the 2026 academic year Professor Ibaraki is in charge of graduation research for the Faculty of Education.
Saeko Yamagata, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The lab of Associate Professor Yamagata studies geometric group theory, which uses geometry to clarify the algebraic properties of groups in mathematics. Associate Professor Yamagata describes the appeal of the research as lying in the place where algebra and geometry connect. Currently, the lab is working on branching random walks on Gromov hyperbolic spaces on which weakly hyperbolic groups act. The Mathematics Specialization to which the lab belongs mainly aims to train elementary and junior high school teachers with specialized mathematical knowledge and logical thinking skills.
Akira Kitagawa, Professor
0 student voices
The lab of Professor Kitagawa studies simulations that visualize electromagnetic waves and the development of teaching materials on measurement and control of electronic circuits. Professor Kitagawa lists machine learning and quantum optics as research keywords. The lab also presents, in papers and at academic conferences, its development of software that lightens the workload at school sites. The research themes of the Technology Specialization are only examples, and graduation research is flexibly adapted to students' interests.
Satoshi Sakamoto, Professor
0 student voices
The Machining and Metal Processing Lab studies how accurately a wide range of materials can be processed, not only metals but also polymers, hard and brittle materials, and biological materials. The lab also researches environmentally friendly processing methods and tools. The lab says it will apply its findings to "monozukuri" (manufacturing) education, and will also share them widely with society through conference presentations and journal papers. The lab also collaborates with other universities and private companies, aiming to establish new precision processing technologies.
Daisuke Kobayashi, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The lab of Associate Professor Daisuke Kobayashi works on Kansei science research (the study of human sensibility and feelings) on the relationship between wood and people, and on developing teaching materials and tools for woodworking education. Associate Professor Kobayashi lists "the science of the relationship between trees and humans" as his research keyword. He also presented at an academic conference on a practice of wood education (mokuiku) at an elementary school, designed with the learning of photosynthesis in mind. The research themes of the Technology Education Specialization are only examples, and graduation research is handled flexibly according to each student's interests.
Kuniko Sugiyama, Professor
0 student voices
The lab of Professor Kuniko Sugiyama studied how oven heating with steam affects the finish of animal protein foods such as meat. It aimed to find heating conditions that leave meat and similar foods easy to eat and safe, in order to help improve undernutrition among older adults. Professor Sugiyama belongs to the Home Economics Specialization in the Faculty of Education, and teaches classes and practical training in cookery science. Based on the idea that people turn food into something safer, easier to eat, tastier, and easier to digest by cooking it, the classes teach the theory and methods of cooking.
Natsuko Mito, Professor
0 student voices
Professor Natsuko Mito's lab studied, based on scientific evidence, what children should learn about nutrition in home economics classes. Using the Dietary Reference Intakes for Japanese as a guide, the lab aimed to present a class program that builds an understanding of meals that meet appropriate energy and nutrient intakes, from the perspectives of maintaining health, promoting growth, and preventing lifestyle-related diseases. Professor Mito belongs to the home economics specialization of the Faculty of Education and teaches courses on food and nutrition science and food science experiments.
Katsuyuki Tokinoya, Assistant Professor
0 student voices
The Tokinoya Lab studies the effects of exercise from the perspective of exercise physiology and biochemistry, and also conducts analyses using molecular biology methods. Many people believe that exercise is good for health, but much about its effects is still unknown. The lab carries out research to find the answers in its laboratory on the campus in Hodogaya Ward. Focusing on a substance called renalase, the lab investigates the mechanism by which exercise has beneficial effects against the age-related decline in mitochondrial function in skeletal muscle. The lab got fully underway in fiscal 2025.
