The lab explores technology strategy and R&D organizations in relation to society.

The Technology Strategy Lab focuses on technology strategy, R&D organizations, and new business creation, and also addresses issues such as the formation of regional industries and regional revitalization. It views technology not as an isolated element but as something that develops through interactions with organizations, businesses, and local communities. Drawing on diverse methodologies developed in engineering, the lab examines the relationship between technology and society from multiple perspectives.

A lab that tackles problems in management and public administration using knowledge and generative AI.

The Nagamatsu Lab (Management Systems) studies issues in management of technology, management information, quality management, and public administration and the environment, centered on the use of knowledge and generative AI. Its approach bridges the humanities and sciences: it combines qualitative methods such as the process approach with quantitative methods such as statistics and quantification theory. The lab's website carries the slogan "Designing the structure of society with data." Simulation, big data, demand forecasting, supply chain management, and the informatization of local governments and regions are also listed among its research keywords.

A lab that explores the value technology creates for society and industry through analysis, strategy, and innovation.

The Moriya-Matsushita-Horiuchi Lab (Value Creation Engineering) focuses on what value technology creates for society and industry. Rather than looking only at the technology itself, which is the focus of many engineering labs, it looks at the value that technology generates. The lab conducts interdisciplinary research that combines data analysis, management strategy, and innovation studies. The lab does not take in undergraduate students; it accepts a wide range of students from the graduate level, including those from other faculties and other universities.

A lab that improves system safety through a desirable relationship between humans and machines.

The Takahashi-Karikawa Lab studies how to improve the safety of large, complex systems in which humans play the main role in ensuring safety. Targeting aviation systems and nuclear power plants, it works to improve safety from the perspectives of human cognitive models and behavioral economics. It also develops technology to estimate a person's state from biological information such as visual information, heart rate variability, and brain activity. It studies the social acceptance of advanced technologies such as AI and nuclear power from the standpoint of subjective risk perception.

The lab uses economics to analyze technology transfer at public institutions and the starting of companies.

The Intellectual Property Lab studies innovation and entrepreneurship (starting a company) from the perspective of economic policy. Using data, the lab quantitatively analyzes how the technology transfer activities of regional public testing and research institutes affect outcomes such as the productivity of small and medium-sized enterprises. The lab also examines how factors such as the quality of science affect the IPOs and fundraising of university spin-off startups. The lab's website is set up as the personal page of Associate Professor Nobuya Fukugawa.

The lab is a synthetic organic chemistry lab that develops new synthetic reactions using the power of metals.

Professor Shuichi Oi and Lecturer Shinya Tanaka research the creation of new synthetic reactions with the help of metals. Professor Oi works on developing organic reactions that use transition metal catalysts, and has succeeded in developing new catalytic organic synthesis reactions and asymmetric synthesis reactions. Lecturer Tanaka works on developing reactions such as the carboxylation of unsaturated compounds with carbon dioxide. Professor Oi also applies the reactions he has developed to the development of electronic materials and luminescent materials.
