Masaaki Sadakiyo, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The Sadakiyo Lab studies new functional materials using porous solids with tiny nanoscale pores (spaces), such as porous coordination polymers (PCPs) and metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). Its goal is materials that contribute to a next-generation energy and material-cycle society. The lab designs nanospaces inside solids and develops technologies to freely control the movement of substances, ions, and electrons. Specifically, it works on superionic conductors, materials that selectively adsorb and separate particular molecules, electrosynthesis catalysts, and more.

Shinichi Komaba, Professor
0 student voices
The Komaba Lab studies materials for new batteries that can convert energy efficiently, in order to help solve environmental and energy problems. The lab aims to realize storage batteries with high energy, long life, and low environmental impact for portable devices and next-generation vehicles. In addition to improving the performance of lithium-ion secondary batteries and capacitors, the lab synthesizes battery materials and investigates charge-discharge reactions, with the goal of putting sodium-ion and potassium-ion secondary batteries into practical use. It also studies electrochemical sensors that selectively detect substances from electrical signals, and biofuel cells that use enzyme reactions to generate electricity.

Hidetaka Torigoe, Professor
0 student voices
The Torigoe Lab studies life phenomena that arise when biomolecules such as proteins and DNA interact with other biomolecules, from the viewpoint of the chemistry of life. The lab prepares biomolecules itself, analyzes their higher-order structures by spectroscopic methods, and examines the properties of interactions between molecules using thermodynamic, kinetic, and electrochemical methods. It also investigates the functions of biomolecules using molecular biological and genetic methods. The lab is an interdisciplinary one that takes a broad range of approaches centered on physical chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and genetics, and it is introduced as open to anyone, whichever of these fields they are interested in.
