Kazuaki Nakamura, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The Nakamura Lab studies cyberattacks on AI that recognizes or generates images, and defenses against them. Its research fields are information security, perceptual information processing, and intelligent informatics. Its research topics are developing methods for removing the poison from image recognition models and image datasets that have suffered poisoning attacks, and quantifying the risk of model inversion attacks that expose the training data of image generation AI, along with developing defenses against them.

Go Irie, Professor
0 student voices
The Irie Lab conducts research on pattern recognition, machine learning, and media understanding. Its research fields are perceptual information processing (pattern recognition) and intelligent informatics (machine learning). Research topics include selective forgetting in vision-language models and indoor depth estimation using ultrasound and deep learning.

Takashi Sozu, Professor
0 student voices
The Sozu Lab aims to advance medical statistics and to use that knowledge and those techniques to create new insights from medical data. Graduation thesis topics include sample size determination for clinical trials, survival analysis, and analysis of urinary findings in patients with IgA nephropathy. There are also topics that analyze sports data, such as professional baseball and soccer.

Yuya Okadome, Lecturer
0 student voices
The Okadome Lab conducts research on achieving communication that feels "just right" by focusing on body movements such as gestures. To that end, the lab works on creating the various technologies that are needed. Its research field is intelligent robotics, involving human-robot interaction, machine learning, and deep learning.

Tomohide Shibata, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The Shibata Lab studies natural language processing, especially large language models. Alongside fundamental research, the lab works to solve societal challenges through the practical application of this technology. Founded in April 2026, the lab welcomes students interested in natural language processing, large language models, and artificial intelligence.
Toru Ikeguchi, Professor
0 student voices
The Ikeguchi Lab studies nonlinear time series analysis, complex networks, synchronization of oscillators, and combinatorial optimization, among other topics. Professor Ikeguchi's research field is Kansei informatics, which also extends to nonlinear science, chaos, computational neuroscience, and mathematical agriculture. Assistant Professor Sawada works on developing causality detection methods for point processes and analyzing the dynamics of temporal networks.
Yoshiko Tamura-Tamura-Ikebe, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The Tamura-Ikebe Lab studies, with an emphasis on algorithms, problems of deciding on the "optimal" selection from several candidates according to a given criterion. One example is the problem of dividing parcel deliveries among several trucks and determining delivery routes that keep delivery costs as low as possible. Another example is a scheduling problem in a sports league's round-robin tournament: deciding when and where matches are played so that travel distances are kept small. The lab's introduction page lists the traveling umpire problem and the undirected minimum-cost flow problem, among others, as research themes.

Tomoaki Tatsukawa, Professor
0 student voices
The Tatsukawa Lab uses computational science, including numerical simulation and AI/machine learning, to analyze complex phenomena and solve real-world problems. Its current central theme is the digital twin, which merges physical space and cyberspace. The lab is also building a "manufacturing digital twin" that advances and optimizes design and production processes. Besides digital twins, the lab has research groups on fluid simulation, design optimization, and air traffic systems.

Masaya Fujisawa, Associate Professor
0 student voices
The Fujisawa Lab researches technologies for achieving highly reliable information transmission and secure networks. Its fields are coding theory and information security, covering code-based cryptography, blockchain, secure computation, and secret sharing. In addition to wireless network research, the lab pursues joint research on DNA storage, support systems for hammering-sound inspection, and medical image processing. The lab also develops information systems that apply these technologies.

Yukinobu Taniguchi, Professor
0 student voices
The Taniguchi Lab researches video media processing technologies, which form the foundation for making effective use of image and video data, and their applications. Its subjects are the images and videos all around us, such as photos and videos taken with smartphones and footage from surveillance cameras and dashboard cameras. Research topics include automatic indexing and retrieval of video, sensing that captures real-world situations from camera footage, and structural analysis of video content. Aiming for technologies that are useful not only in the lab but in real environments, the lab makes a point of processing actual camera footage and real content found online.
