Kenji Yasuda, Professor
0 student voices
The Yasuda Lab seeks to understand how life works in the language of physics. Living things are systems organized in a hierarchy from molecules to cells to individuals, and they show properties that do not arise by simply gathering molecules together. In physics, observing regular behavior requires something on the order of Avogadro's number of elements, yet life maintains high regularity and reproducibility with only a handful of elements. The lab investigates where this "collective effect" comes from, using a constructive approach that builds systems up from their elements.

Yoshihiro Yamazaki, Professor
0 student voices
The Yamazaki Lab studies pattern-formation phenomena and behavioral patterns seen in everyday life. The branching of cherry trees, snowflakes, cracks in glass, bacterial colonies, flocks of birds and schools of fish: these forms of nature look complex and diverse at first glance. The lab views them as "patterns" regardless of the fine differences among their components, and tries to bring out the formation mechanisms shared across individual phenomena. From the viewpoints of statistical physics, nonlinear science, and complex systems science, it aims at simple modeling and the extraction of mathematical structures.

Kazuya Yuasa, Professor
0 student voices
The Yuasa Lab theoretically studies quantum physics and quantum information, with "quantum entanglement" as its keyword. In the microscopic world described by quantum mechanics, many strange phenomena occur. Alongside considering such fundamental problems in quantum theory, the lab investigates quantum-mechanical effects that appear from the microscopic to the mesoscopic scale. The lab also works on the physics of quantum information and quantum technology, which actively exploit quantum correlations and entanglement.
