The Architectural and Urban Environmental Engineering Lab studies building services and building environmental engineering, including air conditioning, ventilation, natural ventilation, and environmental psychology and physiology. Its research fields are building environmental engineering, building services, and building materials. Its research themes include ventilation, natural airflow, indoor air quality, thermal environment, air-conditioning systems, commissioning, energy saving, and occupant evaluation. The lab's website is titled "Built Environment Laboratory" and presents the lab together with another area of the same group.

The Architectural and Urban Planning Lab (Kita Lab) examines the relationship between people and space in depth, and conducts research and practice on the planning and design of architectural, urban, and regional spaces. It takes a "human-environment system" perspective, in which humans and their environment evolve and develop together, covering scales from buildings to cities and regions. Building on the concept of "regional context"—that space is supported by invisible social organization, economic structures, and topography and ground—it conducts field studies in villages, cities, and new towns in Japan and abroad. By reading how space comes into being, the lab links this to spatial planning and community development that make people and society vibrant.

The Architectural Seismology and Geotechnics Lab studies everything from analysis of earthquake ground motion to foundations, ground, and seismic isolation, in order to reduce earthquake damage to buildings. Focusing on the Osaka area, the lab analyzes ground motions from the Uemachi Fault and the Tonankai and Nankai earthquakes, and simulates building damage taking ground conditions into account. It investigates the behavior of foundations and ground during earthquakes through experiments and FEM analysis. As ways to reduce damage, it studies the development of seismically isolated and vibration-controlled structures and composite improved ground.

The Steel Structures Lab conducts mechanics-based research mainly on building structures such as steel structures, timber structures, and steel-concrete composite structures. Its aim is to develop theories and methods for creating safe and comfortable architectural spaces against loads such as earthquakes, typhoons, and snow. Specifically, the lab carries out numerical analysis on computers and experiments to confirm the theory. The lab belongs to the Architectural Structures Group in the Architectural Engineering Section of the Division of Global Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering.
