Mineko Kengaku, Professor
0 student voices
The Kengaku Lab studies how neurons (nerve cells) migrate, shape themselves, and build neural circuits during brain development. In the developing brain, neurons migrate out of the proliferative layer to form layers, extend axons and dendrites, and form synapses with specific partners. By combining molecular biology, live-cell imaging, and mechanobiology, the lab aims to understand the principles of normal brain development and neural circuit formation. The lab is based at the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS) and is in charge of the neural development field of the Division of Integrated Life Sciences, Graduate School of Biostudies. Students join the lab from graduate school.
Jun Suzuki, Professor

The Suzuki Lab studies how cells and parts of cells that are no longer needed in the body are recognized and removed. In the human body, many cells die every day and are eaten by phagocytes, while almost the same number of cells are produced at the same time, which keeps organs in good condition. Because failure of this removal can lead to diseases such as autoimmune diseases and cancer, the lab focuses on the mechanisms of removal. The lab is based at the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material Sciences (iCeMS) of the Institute for Advanced Study, and it participates as a cooperating division of the Graduate School of Biostudies. Students join the lab from graduate school.
