The center is a hub for collaborative research that reads contemporary China in depth, focusing on modern and contemporary Chinese history.

The Contemporary China Research Center was established in April 2007 as an affiliated research center in order to focus on collaborative research on contemporary China. It also accepts faculty from the Graduate Schools of Economics, Letters, Human and Environmental Studies, Law, and others, and aims to create a place where Kyoto University researchers of contemporary China can continue to conduct collaborative research.
